Hi I'm getting back into my rc again but i don't know what to do the problem is this i was going to buy a new hyper 7 tq2 .21 cos of the new upgraded parts on it and for 260 looks good but my local shop where I'm going to buy it the owner has his own car for sale which is a team associate rc8 with a axial .32 engine xp servos stater box all for 300 but it is used he says its had bout 30-40 tanks put through it and is a few years old so help please thanks John

Wouldn't touch the Axial .32. They were kind of spotty on their quality.

Not only that but a .32 is a terrible size motor for a buggy. If its not an RC8.2 I wouldnt even bother with it unless he is just selling it really cheap. You'll probably be happier with the Hyper 7 since its new but the RC8 is a better racer. If your planning on bashing only and maybe just an occasional club race id say go for the new buggy.

Ok i had the old hyper about 4years ago was a ok car. Why would the .32 be bad just thought it would be fast and he wants 300 for it all

I like the hyper but would be nice for something a bit faster is there anything else for the 300ish Mark, would changing the pipe on the hyper for a jammin p4 make any difference just want to make the right choice

I just posted this very same thing in the buggy forum so forgive me if I just copy and paste it here.

"I'll also point out that for racing buggies (someone correct me here if I'm wrong as I dont race all that often and when I do its just club level stuff for fun.) you want a .21 rather than a .28 for racing on a track for a few reasons. A .21 has more than enough power for a track, a .28 is to much for a track you will have a hard time handling the extra power and making smooth consistent laps. .21s also use less fuel so you'll wont have to pit as often as a .28. .21s are also lighter. Anything bigger than a .21 in a buggy are typically not race legal in most races."

If your bashing I guess it doesn't really matter but I have a .26 in my OFNA 9.5MBX and its really more power than the buggy can handle its hard to keep it going in a straight line in loose dirt or gravel.

Bigjohn, I have the Hyper 8 with an OS .21 in it and it is the best nitro vehicle I own. The quality of the materials and construction of that buggy, for the price, can not be beat. It is just great. It handles excellent and my OS engine runs great. You need to get you a new one and do not buy that used one from the owner.

I agree with greywolf on the topic of anything bigger than a .21 on a buggy is overkill. Unless of course your just bashing around. I have an hpi trophy buggy with the bigger F4.6 engine geared 17/46 and it is hell to handle on a track. Then again just bashing around in a big area its fun and fast as hell. If i ever want to start racing it I'm gonna have to buy a smaller .21 mill. Its always best for noobies and anyone just getting back into RC to buy new instead of used also. Main reasoning is to save yourself the headache of buying someone else's project or junk. I believe you will be happy with the hyper 7.

thanks people yr right i dont want to waste my hard earned cash on a secondhand headache i just seen the .32 as fun but to have a new buggy is more fun i get to set it up and run it in my self just one more question is there any other rtr buggys or truggys for £300 you can recommend cheers john

I paid $389 for my HPI trophy buggy from tower hobbies and had to change out my servos before break in was complete. But with any RTR thats expected. It comes with a F3.5 (.21) You can also get an OFNA ultra lx2 for around $300 but it comes with a force.28 which is basically what i have on mine now. If you want the best bang for your buck spend a bit more on a losi 8ight 2.0 for $699 and it comes rtr with a spectrum DX3S radio and a bump box. Also the losi 350 .21 bb engine.

I can vouch for the Losi, I just finished building the 8ight 2.0eu using Savox servos and Alpha Club Racer .21 engine, excellent quality, very smooth

Between the two I would go with the new one. As was stated Axial engines are not that great at all and unless I know for certian it was taken care of you could be buying a headache. The Hyper is a good solid rig to get back into with.

As mentioned, a .21 is all you need for a buggy. The .32 would make it almost impossible to control in the bottom end and would kick itself apart in short time once exposed to the rpm that buggy's are capable of. It's a MT engine where rpm is limited and even then they have issues with the main bearing going out.

I agree toatally with ERCM. As I had said in your other post a good .21 will out run a .28 in a buggy due to the RPM advantage. I have had it happen. Not only that the lower torque with higher RPMs is better for the narrower tires of a buggy. You can only put so much of that power to the ground....if you spend more time burning out it is wasted.

Hey no problem, I didn't get it all in one go either, took about 6 months, been running a RTR Ansman Deuce in the meantime :)
