So I found a missing screw holding the front bulkhead to the chassis. I looked at the other one, pulled it out to see if I could find a match at the hardware store, and it was bent. So I found replacements, and re-installed them, and one side of the integy front bulkhead is completely stripped out. Ugh.

So now i'm looking for reccomendations for a new front bulkhead.

:(

Edit : Sorry, Nitro Rustler.

Rpm.....................
I don't think RPM makes one.

$5 for stock part
$25 for integy gunmetal
$24-$27 for a few different aluminum manufacturers.

Take your pick..personally, I like the stock one..I'm not much on "bling" for bashing.

I'm not understanding the problem.

You keep loosing the bottom screws (from the chassis to your bulkhead)...correct? The ones that are in there are bent...is that right?

I know nothing about the Rustler, but it sounds like your problem is the fact the bulkead is being moved on impact. I'm not sure if the bulkhead is the problem rather than your suspension blocks. In other words when you nose-dive, you need something to ensure the bulkhead remains stationary. I go through bulk-heads (and center diff mounts) all the time...but that is mainly from taking them on/off - and I replace with stock ones. However, for the bottom screws on the bulkhead to be bent....I suggest finding the root of the problem and fixing that.

Putting an on aluminum bulkhead seems pretty extreme...I'd stay away from it. Instead I'd find what the root originator is, and attack that.

It has an aluminum bulkhead on it now (Integy) and the threads are stripped out in the bulkhead. I'm sure it has something to do with the screws sliding out of the bulkhead and then bending. I don't think it would move if the threads were holding the screws. I'm not sure if it was like this before I got it, or close to stripped, but what matters is that it's screwed up and I need something new. There are only two screws holding the Integy bulkhead on and they are 4mm screws I believe. The factory setup uses three of them rather than just the two, but I don't think the aluminum chassis has three holes in it :kookoo:. Maybe I should get myself a nice tap and die set. :ponder2:

Anyway, i'm not sure if it would be a good idea, since it already has an aluminum shock tower, bumper, and bulkhead, to replace the one part holding the aluminum parts together with a plastic part.

It actually has more to do with the aluminum used by the mfr (Integy). There are many sad stories on here about Integy parts failing. I personally have had bad problems with parts from them. Get something better quality and send the Integy parts to a recycler.

Yeah, I can see nothing good from aluminum bulkheads. It seems to be hiding another flaw. I assume you are putting thread lock in it? I'd really look for another design.

And that's good to know about Integy, I;ve read a lot of negative things concerning their products. I imagine I have some of their "stuff" somewhere, but am going to try and will avoid them going further.

I have just put the strc front bulk on a vxl rusty for my neighbour and I gotta say its a great piece of gear looks good and it plenty strong

Plus 100 on staying away from Ingegy. It is polished pot metal, it looks pretty but will bend if you give it a stern look. I would either go back stock, FLM or STRC. I have had parts from both and they seemed to hold up ok. FLM for sure, about the 2nd or 3rd best alloy part on the market.

***Integy....because Mythbusters proved you can indeed, polish a turd****

That's an aluminum part, I wouldn't put that on the front of my truck. But maybe it'll work for you.

Maybe I'll just try the plastic one then and see how it holds up. If not, it's only a couple of bucks.

STRC, FLM, and Dynamite all make good quality aircraft grade aluminum bulkheads. I have a Dynamite on one of my Rustys and the STRC on the other.

Also FLM has a product warranty! If you bend it, send it back to FLM, they'll replace the part, you do have to pay shipping/handling yerself.

I like that idea. If I bust this stock one (when I bust it) i'll get an FLM bulkhead

So my new bulkhead came today. When I went to install it, I discovered two things.

1 : bulkhead failure also wrecked the piston shaft on one of my brand new shocks. :(

2 : The design of the bulkhead is garbage. When I took it off, I realized that not only is the metal a piece of junk with torn out threads, it's a two piece design. The two 3mm screws that I were missing were actually holding the lower part of the bulkhead holding the a-arms to the upper part of the bulkhead that holds the shock tower. Double ya tee eff? Who thinks this is a good idea?

So i guess here I go shopping again. New shock piston shaft. Can anyone suggest a method for changing the shaft out without losing the shock oil? I'm kind of thinking that it's impossible, so I probably need to buy a bottle of shock oil to top it off while i'm there. What weight oil normally comes in the rustler front shocks?

Nope gotta drop the oil
If you're gonna replace the shock shafts I would suggest the traxxas TiNi shafts, they cost a lil bit more but are way stronger
