Nope gotta drop the oil
If you're gonna replace the shock shafts I would suggest the traxxas TiNi shafts, they cost a lil bit more but are way stronger

This. Its good to have shock oil on hand anyway, you should open up your shocks and check the level of oil on a regular basis. I use 45 wt. on front and back of my GT.
 
That's good to hear. I guess I did the right thing last night buying 2 bottles of 40W shock oil, and the TINI shafts. :) I also have a variety of pistons that came with the new shocks. Any recommendation for switching them out, or should I stick with the ones that are in there?

Also for the record, I sent Integy a support ticket about how crappy the design of that bulkhead is. :whistle:

And, I discovered that one of the front suspension pins was bent when I tried to pull it out of the bulkhead. I had to beat the trout out of it to get it out. So I got two of those coming as well. :)

As for pistons, you'll typically want to augment the changes you make with different oil weight--as they work in tandem. The basic principle is larger holes will help increase traction, and smaller holes will help with jumping/landing. Of course understand that larger/fewer holes behave differently than smaller/more holes (even if summed diameter is the same). Really just have to try out different pistons/oil weights to get the feel you like.
