Help!!!!!!

Okay I just got a duratrax evader in a trade and its got the stock dtx 18 engine in it. I can take the car from dead cold and start it up no problem....... but then it dies after about 1/8th of a tank. I then put my starter back on and pull like crazy and nothing! Then after it cools down for like 20 minutes it will start right back up and run for another 1/8th to 1/4 tank. Any ideas???? Any help is great!

Its either overheating or your engine is getting tired.
What does it sound like when it dies is it laboring like weak on power then dies.
Try richening it out a little and see what happens.

Sounds like the engine needs a rebuild. Either that or it is too lean and is overheating. My buggy does the same thing, only it starts up after around five minutes.

Sounds like a tired engine to me. My O.S. RG got like that before I had the sleeve pinched.

tune her.. she does that.. once she is tuned shell be ok for a full run.. but yea.. she does that sometimes

Okay thats a good thing. I will try to tune her more in the morning then and see what happens. Did you tend to run her rich or leaner. what where the setting you ran with??:bow:

i always ran her lean..cause i didnt know better. she may need a rebuild but i had her running a couple weeks ago..

okay well i will see what i can do and tell you what I find. I'm going to save up though and stick an os 18 cv-rx in it.

That won't be a mistake at all. That's a good little engine. Just make sure you get the right one for your truck. It comes in a few flavors (different carb/crankshaft).

Here's a question for you guys. Would getting a new piston and sleeve fix the whole problem with compression and tuning??

A lot of times, on a cheaper engine (less than ~$125), getting a new piston/sleeve isn't very cost effective. By the time your piston/sleeve dies, your con-rod is typically worn as are your bearings. If you add all that up, your close to the cost of a new engine, but your stuck with an old carb, old one-way, old seals...

On a cheaper engine, the most I'd do is replace bearings and get the piston/sleeve re-pinched. If I had to do more than that to it, I toss it and get a new one.

Like Olds said it's not a cost effective idea to rebuild a cheap engine but the worn piston/sleeve will cause compression and tuning problems. When an engine continues to die once it's warmed up, it's done.....If you were supposed to get a good running truck in the trade you got the

Well I Have someone coming to look at my airplanes and if they decide they want it then tomorrow i will be running a brand new OS 18 CV-RX in my evader. No more worrying about the dang dtx 18. And for only 100 dollars at my lhs its cheaper then the stocker! what a deal.
