Well I think I've found the truck that I'm going to by. I found an Associated Factory Team T4 with a Novak Super Sport setup with brushless 4300. Does this sound like a pretty good setup? Could someone reccomend a good battery setup?? Anything I should know about this truck or electronics?

Sounds like a good setup. The Novak speedo is a good one. What kind of motor is it? 4300Kv sounds like a hot setup for a T4. The truck will handle it though. If it is a used truck I would pull the ball diff out and inspect it. Replace the diff balls and rings if they look worn or have a grove ground in them. Also inspect the bearings to make sure they are clean and move freely. Basically check the car out well before you run it. It would also be advisable to see if the person you are buying it from will let you run it before you buy it. Kinda like buying a used car. You just want to make sure the car is in good shape before you buy it. I would hate for you to buy a truck only to find the diff and transmission are shot.

I run 4200 NimH batteries in mine and it runs well. You can run Lipos but I believe you will need to purchase the BEC from Novak and solder it onto the speedo so that you don't drop the volatage on the lipo pack below 6V. Other than that I think you will be very happy with the truck. It's tough, fast and alot of fun. Anything I can do to help just let me know.

The novak set up should be nice in that truck. The 4300 is a mild set up but still fast, is it the older SS version....those esc's will only run a brushless motor. The Novak's don't handle as many cells as other brushless systems but they are a smooth as silk, I have always had good luck with them.

If your going to stick with ni-mh batteries take a look at this

I considered all the options, and I decided that instead of buying the used truck with the brushless system, I'm going to buy a brand new truck, and I can upgrade to the brushless system later for not much more than I would have paid for the used truck. I just don't l ike buying used unless it's from someone I know because you never know what could be covered up that you can't see until you take it apart. I've learned this with my expeience buying building and selling hot rods. I'm leaving now to go to the hobby shop, I'm soooo excited :)

thats what i would do for sure unless you know your getting it from a reliable source, if not you might be buying a piece of crapola. if you get it new you always know what your getting. i think your making the right choise!

good luck

If you have the money new is always better! Which hobby shop do you go to? The only one I found there is Hares on Lee st. and he didn't have a lot of car/truck parts when I went but it's been a while.

Hey Smaxxin... I thought the lower the KV rating, the hotter the motor was? I guess I was mistakin. LOL I am still learning exactly what the numbers mean. Thanks man.

I'm no expert on kv ratings but I had the SS 5800 and a buddy had the SS 4300, the 5800 was much faster. I think the 4300 was used as a "stock brushless class" because it was comparable to a 17 or 19 turn motor. Novak has changed the way they label them now.

the 4300 is a smaller motor than the 5800. It is a stock class brushless motor, but because it's brushless they say it actually compares closer to a 10 turn in the reviews I read.

It's a done deal, I bought a brand new Associated RC10T4 RTR Race Spec. It's such a beautiful truck considering it's right out of the box.

Ok... that is probably where I made my mistake. I am much more familiar with the way they label there motors now. I know the 6.5 is slower than the 4.5 which is the hotter motor. When I saw the 4300, and was thinking 4.3 which was not correct. Thank you for the info and sorry for the incorrect post.

Well I just took out the T4 for a quick 5 minute test run. Man that thing is stupid fast and handles like nobody's business. I can't wait to get this thing to the track. It's quick with the stock motor, no tellin what this thing would do with a brushless setup.

I've started a thread in the projects section where I will keep up with the build and my forray into racing
