hi I'm kind of new to nitro cars I'm still trying to fine tune a second hand car i bought from a friend. i seem to keep having to take the exhaust of and drain it, its a 2 part outer case with a cone shape removable part on the inside and an o ring. is this normal for them to flood or do i have a problem. its a right pain every time i use a tank of fuel i need to take the exhaust apart and drain the excess fuel from it:angry::angry:.
some times it can be a good table spoon worth or more. i thought it may be running rich to start with but the wheels are now static when ideling and if i reduce the carb needle it cuts out. any advice or ideas of why this is doing it if it shouldnt be and would changing the exhaust to a one piece exhaust mean more hastle ?
many thanks in advance
Neil

I was having a similar issue but with mine the fuel was literally spraying out of the exhaust. It ended up being a bad fuel tank. Instead of pressurizing the tank it was working more like a vacuum and sucking the fuel out. Changed the tank for a new one and worked perfectly. Not sure if this will help, but maybe.

Sounds more like you are too rich on your carb settings. While running are you spraying a lots of un-burnt fuel? What is the engine temp while running. You will always get some gunk but pouring it out is excessive.

I agree with jeff5150 I'd do a fuel tank swap out & check Rig's manual " thats if you got one when you bought it from your friend " & set fuel setting back breakin settings & go from there...

ok thanks all. will go down the route of fuel tank change and if still no luck i will pick ur brains further.
many thanks
neil

I would check the carb setting before you start swapping fuel tanks. I have owned over 30 different nitro models though the years and have NEVER had a fuel tank flood the exhaust unless it was flipped upside down. The nipple for pressure is in the top of the tank....there is no straw going down into the fuel on 99.99% of tanks for the pressure..... if it was some how sucking fuel out once the level went down it would stop. But hey, it is your money do what you want but I HIGHLY doubt it is your tank. Not only that if it was sucking fuel out of the exhaust it can't ALSO send fuel to the carb. If the engine is running... you are NOT.... I repeat NOT "Sucking" fuel out through the exhaust. Where would the air come from to prevent a vacuum from forming in the tank if you had fuel simultaneously going out the pipe and into the carb? Can't happen, basic physics proves that wrong.....check your needle settings and engine temps.

Joey is 100% correct! If the engine is running and you are spraying fuel out the exhaust you are running too rich. Check your needle settings, your temps, and let us know what they are. A bad fuel tank sucking fuel? really? um NO. The only time I have seen a fuel tank cause a problem is if it is leaking air, and then it causes the engine to idle erratically and to run lean as it wont push enough fuel in to the engine.

I would set the carb back to factory settings and retune. I use the "nitro tuning tips and flow chart" and"performance tuning guide" try that and see if it helps. Too rich.. Keep an eye on temps while fine tuning.

You know something as simple as carbs setting are quick easy and free so why wouldn't you try that before you just start throwing money at it? Knowing what model and engine you have would be very helpful to find out exactly where your starting point for needle settings should be....They are not all the same. Once you have the factory starting point the tuning flow chart will steer you in the right direction.

this link is solid gold for anyone running nitro

Carb settings...Whenever your to rich it will spit unburnt fuel out of the exhaust. Fuel can't be "sucked" out of a fuel tank from the back pressure line at the top of the tank.

Which needle are you playing with? Do you know which is which? Do you have a pressure line going from the pipe to the top of the tank?

That is the problem is I don't think he is playing with any needle setting because there are a couple clowns telling him to swap out the fuel tank. Hey I have a grinding noise sounds like it is coming from the front diff. Think I should replace my carb? Makes as much sence.

Neil IMO LISTEN TO JOEY, MAXX, GREYWOLF, NITRO, and Maxxin these guys know whats going on. All you have to do is look around the entire forum not just this section. I have started rebuilding a MAXX and without some of the posts, links, and other stuff they have around here I would be more lost than a turtle on Tuesday in the north pole. There are others but before you go taking advice look at other threads to see what they say. To the few mentioned above thank you tremendously for your help and renewing my love for NITRO :duff::duff::duff:

being new to Nitro take your time, and the advice of some of our more experienced forum members. in the long run you will have more fun with these rigs, if you learn them inside and out. and that takes time and trial and error ! a bad tune will cause the excess fuel problem, what motor and what rig are you running ?

ok thanks guys. will try to find the factory settings for the engine its a kyosho gx12 engine. i no its not the exhaust sucking fuel through the pressure hose going from the top of the tank to exhaust to pressureise it as there is no fuel being sucked through the hose. the needle I'm using is on the carb where the fuel line goes into i only have the one needle, and the carb screw which seemed to make very little if any difference when adjusting. i dont know what temp its running at as i don't as yet have a thermometer. the car is pureten alpha 2 i believe.
thanks guys for helping save my money(which I'm bad at without encouragement) il have a go over weekend at trying to retune it and i appologise in advance if I'm back here totally mithed by it.

I don't care what you think. I know what mine was doing and what fixed it. Just because the almighty ones here haven't had this issue doesn't mean it can't happen... so gargle on my nutsack says this clown......

Sure and Santa is real too sweetheart. Believe what you want, that was not your problem.... the only thing that was sucking is your trouble shooting skills. Stop misleading people and learn how nitro works. If you have a fuel tank and fuel is being dawn out from both inlet and outlet at the same time you get a vacuum in the tank..... which mean fuel stops flowing to your engine. Meaning It don't run...mmm hmm. You had other issues....and you can keep your little raisin-sack to yourself. :hehe:

But more importantly.... why are you asking another guy to put a part of you in his mouth? Most people would find that a little strange. Are your parents aware of your lifestyle choices? I am not judging... I am ok with your alternate lifestyle just please don't try to force it upon me. But good news in some states you can even get married now, good for you!

We have moderators in your state, don't force them to come over and taze your coin purse in person.
Joey is right, obviously, your theory on fuel tanks goes against the laws of physics.
