i would go with a mild build on that, probably an onyx bl system. are pretty cheap,

first things first though, i would ditch that RX/TX and get a new system. i have been really lucky and have had FlySky GT3C working great for me. some people dont care for it and yes there are better systems out there like Futaba, and Spektrum, but bang for buck i love it. plus more receivers are only 10$ so can fit up to 10 of your your cars with with the same radio.

as far as LiPo, i imagine you are going to have a hard time getting one that will fit in that slot, maybe take some measurements of what is the biggest one you can fit and compare online, there are a few packs that are made to be the same size as NiMh, but it is 60$, is a good brand though from what i can tell and read.

you are going to need a LiPo charger too, preferably you want one that can put the battery in whats called "storage Mode", it brings it to the optimum storage voltage for safest storage, and best lifeline for the battery if it has to sit awhile.
most i see recommended is the
Venom Duo Pro. but that is mainly for multiple batteries.
NiMh is not bad still, it will have more voltage sag than LiPo but my wife runs a 7 cell 3000 Mah NiMh in her granite and does great in there.
for that a cheaper charger like:
