First of all this will be my first nitro.
I won't be racing anyone. Just playing in the yard and at the park. For me and my 2 kids "10 and 14"
I'm wanting something that can climb hills and go through grass easily.

I think I want a larger monster truck. I don't want to send over 400$
Just want something fun that I can learn with.

Also for a newbie is nitro a good choice or should I go electronic?

I do most of my shopping on ebay so any links to there would be appreciated.
Site vendors would be fine too.

Thanks for any help.

I would reccomend the savage x 4.6 by HPI Racing. Big monster truck. Lots of parts support and really durable and fun.:D Electric might be more expensive to start(if buying new) but is much easier to operate. Just plug and play. Its up to you! If you have any questions about some thing or what to buy, you know where to ask!:D

For a good quality new truck (electric or nitro), you're probably looking at around $500 including necessary accessories such as battery, charger, fuel, fuel bottle and glow plug igniter.

For a beginner, I would recommend a good electric. It will get you used to the handling and speed of the hobby grade trucks vs. the cheaper toy type with out the hassle of tuning and break in. I recommend Traxxas kits because there is part support almost anywhere. Here is a good starting point for you in the price range I mentioned:

driving these through grass constantly isnt really a good idea, if you are you will need to keep a good eye on the temps.

when i say these, i mean rc cars in general, the extra resistance make them work harder than they are suppose to. they should be run ideally on concrete/dirt.

agree!

I would also recommend the HPI Savage. Whether you go nitro or electric is up to you. Nitro is generally cheaper up front but takes more maintenance and has a higher learning curve than electric so that is a choice only you can make. I would also recommend buying a new kit from www.Amianhobbies.com also. I do not recommend buying used off of ebay until you know more about what your doing because you usually you end up buying someone elses problem that they couldnt figure out how to fix. Either that or they havent taken proper care of the kit and used wrong screws and makeshift parts etc.
Thats my .02
