From what I've seen (vids and at the LHS) and my limited experience with them, they are pretty fragile. Fast, but turn into a grenade if you hit anything.
For a basher, I'd still recommend a savage. The revo is good... and I'm thinking of piecing one together again... but then I'm back to the problems I had when I had one. Kept tweaking the engine bay due to bottoming out hard and got tired of it. Tried to adjust the shocks/springs/rockers but then it became so stiff that it was annoying to drive in general.
If you want "big", then the Savage XL or Losi XXL are big. Both are good trucks. Losi's drive line is still the stronger/longer lasting of the two (if you ignore the two speed assembly).
I have a 1" extended savage (similar in size to the XL) and a losi aftershock. Both heavily upgraded to tear through a brick wall and take a lot of it along for the ride. I lean more towards durability than looks since I'm a basher only kind of guy.
I've had the following in the past:
2.5 maxx
2.5 sport maxx
big block conversion maxx
savage 21
savage with HB 1" extension
2.5R revo
3.3 revo chassis with OS18Tm
XTM Mammoth
HPI Nitro RS4
Aftershock
