So I got this Traxxas Nitro Stampede. Ran like a charm...then one day I can't get the dang thing started.

Now, this has the traxxas EZ start II on it...and I really like the system however, it's broke. I don't want to go back to the pull starts, they had their own set of issues.

The motor turns over but no glow plug light comes on on the starter wand...must be the glow plug right? So I swapped it out. No dice. Pulled the plug and grounded the plug on the engine case while turning over the EZ start and I get no glow...tried another plug just in case...still no glow. I swapped out the EZ start power pack...no glow...I changed the entire EZ start wiring harness...

Still no glow!

I'm kinda at a loss...I'll be going to a LHS to pick up a new manual glow starter...(I lost my charger) to get it running again. In the mean time, anyone have any other ideas on parts to throw at this thing to get it running? I'd appreciate any ideas! Thanks!

It's probably a broken wire going to the glowplug. It happens frequently. Getting an external igniter like you intend to will take care of the problem.

That's the best plan.

I've always felt the Traxxas and Losi on-board systems were gimmicky and prone to failure.

I replaced the entire EZ start wiring harness which includes the glow plug wire. Any other ideas?

Got to be the wand then.

Most likely^^^

I have about 8 old wands in a junk box that will not power the plug, that doesn’t include the many wands I have given away over the years that the plug circuit failed also.

Get the igniter and never look back...

It will work fine for a little while. When it starts doing the same thing, remove those wires and use an igniter. Much faster starts.

So borrowed a start wand. The engine turns over and pops but the glow plug light still doesn't come on. No glow. Any more ideas?

It could also be a bad ground connection on the glo-igniter circuit.

I'll break out the sandpaper and make sure I'm grounded. I got a moment of glow last night but it wasn't bright. Should I change brands of glow plugs? Any suggestions? I'm using the traxxas standard hot plugs now.

I could be wrong, but i dont think brands are really going to make a difference, i would also check grounds, or you could always do one of those on board ones with the batteries and use that.
Just my two cents

Spelling and grammer were check and read over for all the anal members.

Ummmmm.....why is grammar misspelled, and shouldn't check be checked? :hehe: Sorry, nothing gets past me if you point it out.

Okay, unlikely it's a bad ground. Usually that's a work or no work condition. The plug could just be worn out or your battery is down.
You really need to use a separate ignitor to determine that.
With a separate ignitor you can also remove the plug, plug it into the ignitor and see just how bright it is.
When a wand battery is wearing down, it can't send enough juice to the plug while spinning the starter motor.

I have 3 Traxxas nitro vechicles and the blue wire never works. I always have to use a seperate ignitor. Get your self a good ignitor and you should be good.

I was going to say something about vechicles but...
I wasn't sure if you grew them in your garden or grew a pair on your own.
