My HPI RS4 Evo has just developed a problem; when the throttle is applied it accelerates for a second or two and then the engine goes slightly higher pitched and the car coasts with no further power going to the wheels.

I think this may be a clutch issue but could be wrong. I was using the car where small gravel may have gotten into some mechanisms...

Any thoughts at all? Quite new to nitro-rc cars so any feedback welcomed.

Thanks.

Two speed transmission, maybe it is cutting out as it tries to change to the second gear?

Could be your OWB slipping on your first gear. Or your clutch mechanism for your 2nd gear isn't engaging.

You need to figure out what spins and what doesn't when the engine revs, but the car doesn't move. That will tell you where to look first.

Thanks for the input. I will put the engine back in and fire it up to see what spins and what doesn't.

Btw, what is the OWB?

I gave the cogs and surrounding area a clean, put the engine back in and it worked fine. :D

However, whilst running it today I was tweaking the brake/carb linkage to get the brakes working more effectively. I managed to melt the fibre brake disc to the metal pads!!

Took it all apart again, unstuck it and filed the pad down where fibre had fused on to it. Put it all back together and ready for running tomorrow!

It may be a good idea to replace those brake parts i think they will give you trouble in the near future.:D
