Hi everyone, I'm a new member here and I have some questions about Nitro R/C cars so hopefully i've come to the right place :) This is my senior year in high school and we have to complete a Senior Exit Action Project in order to graduate. With this project we have to:

Write a research paper
Perform an action
Make an original product
Choose a mentor
etc., etc.

I chose Nitro R/C cars because of their close relativity to normal automobiles but on a much smaller and less costly scale. I guess my main question for everyone is what kit do I need to buy? I want an on-road car that comes with everything I need to build it, but I want it completely dis-assembled (I need to build it from the ground up and take pictures/write descriptions and put them in a book for the project). I would also like a car that has a decent amount of aftermarket parts available for it as well. Can anyone help me find what i'm looking for? Also, if there is anyone near the Cincinnati area that is interested in being my mentor...let me know! There isn't much you have to do.

Thanks everyone!
Kyle

We need to know a couple more things.
What do you want to spend on this project.
Do you plan to take this hobby seriously or do you just want to do this project then get rid of the car.
Do you want gas or electric I know you said you want to know about nitro r/c but I still want to clarify that because nitro is a bit harder to deal with than electric not to mention we can get you into electric a lot cheaper. X

Excellent Q's X.

One more question...are you dead set on on-road? Logic behind that question is:

- If you are not going to race it and don't have a pretty well prepared area to run it...on-road cars get very boring very quickly. Zip up the street, zip back down the street, etc.

- Off-road vehicles can be run virtually anywhere and are so much more fun, durable and fun. Did I mention fun?

you could always get a RTR and take it apart and put it back together

I did not get a kit, I got an RTR, then I took it apart little by little, just so I can learn about it, not that anything was wrong with it, but before I put it together, I made sure I knew what it looked like! (That is a bit easier)

Hey guys, sorry about including that info. I used to be into the hobby a bit but took a break from it for about 3 years. I had an offroad kyosho nitro truck so i know all about the hassle of nitro. Price : Anything less than about $400 maybe $450 and I do want to stay into the hobby this time. I do want to do on-road because I want to do a model of a real-life car (Skyline or something).

Thanks for all the replies guys!

I like the NTC3, If you stay cool with the upgrades, engine and radio you should be able to keep it on budget.

Here
Kit $269.00

It is the most feature packed car on the market with an unlimited amount of hop-ups. It is the most popular car among on-road racers due to its performance and you will be able to get abundant help if needed.

Ok what ED listed is a great car. And it should meet all your requirments. Tower had an excellent sale on a perfect motor for this car but it went back to regular price so here is the motor I would recommned now.
O.S. .12 CV-X (S) Its 100 bucks and has a pull start this will eliminate the need for a starterbox.

here is a nice entry level FM Radio Hitec Lynx FM 2CH 1 HS300BB 61

Allthe above listed stuff will set you in at 445 I am looking for a tower code should be able to knock 30 off that once I find new code. Then you will have shipping and misc stuff like fuel glow igniter couple extra plugs probably another 75 bucks.

If you want to save little more change PM I have a pretty nice futaba AM radio I will sell you cheap to help you out its in mint shape. X

Man you can buy all that and more. I think its safe to sat that car has the most aftermarket support out of any of the nitro on-roads. X

Thanks for all of your responses guys! One more thing...what motor does everyone recommend to make this thing...scream ;) ?

~Kyle

For the choice of motors, you have a lot of options. I would go with a nice .12. I can't speak specifics, but I know OS makes very good engines, so does Fantom. There are some exotic Italian engines, but that may be overkill for your application.

I know that Christian just built a TC3, so maybe he has some more specific options, as I am sure he has done a bunch of research.

I would put Schumacher up there with a Serpent. Solid, fast, reliable and worthy.

I havent owned one, but, I dont know a single UNHAPPY Schum. owner.

Wish I could lend more input.

they are fast!!! That nitro fusion was just tested in RCCA and they clocked it at almost 75 mph. You aren't turning at all with those speeds, it will be just straight down the largest parking lot you can find, slow down, turn around and come back.

As a side note, RCCA recommends using an FM system only for that bad boy, since at those speeds it can get away from you in a hurry.
