I am having trouble trying to find what hop-ups I should purchase for my new buggie. I am new to the hobby, but I have broken or lost something each time I have taken my Hyper 7 PBS out. Yes, I used blue lock-tite now and will be ok from that aspect, I also purchased a fail-safe, and have yet to install it. But where can I find a stronger suspension system that won't crack if I say, run into a curb or something?? Is there anything out there that is that strong? Also, what is a good torque for a servo running 6.0amps Rx pack, and if I only have the money to buy one servo at a time, which should I replace first? (Man I wish I bought a kit instead of a "RTR")
Thanks in advance for your input....

As far as suspension the only thing you can really do is buy some extra parts and practice your driving skills so you don't hit the curbs haha. As for the servo, the Hitec HS-645MG is a decent servo for steering and it has about 130 oz./in. of torque, it costs around $35. I like the HS5645-MG, which is digital and is faster and has more toqrue, but its around $50. You will be fine with the 645 tho if your just running around the yard.

Hitting curbs will just about break or bend anything. (sorry on that one).
As for a servo, I would go for steering first as long as there is nothing wrong with the t/b servo.
I would say 115 and up for torque should do you good.
I use JR digital servos.
8800s for steering and throttle.
I use the 8800T for my MGT steering. It's slower but has more umph.

I say remove the 6amp power pack...your cooking your servos :D :jk: they are 6VDC @ 1200mah typically....

you just got the best 2 scenarios for servos from these two guys...the Hitec is a decent budget servo and the JRs are top shelf stuff (you need I.D. to buy em).....
My options are the JR 8611 (older JR model) for steering and the Futaba S9451 for trottle/brake.....but you'll pay for performance fo sure...

Plaidfish, I see that you answer everyone's questions and must be highly respected in the R/C world (as I have seen your posts on different forums as well). So let me ask you, and I don't mind if you go into the deepest of detail, I'm into that stuff. Why did you choose the servos that reccomended to me. I researched the Futaba one, and I couldn't see any spec that shined above others for the price. But without knowing you, I trust you, but by knowing your reasoning I will learn. Also, where can I find the JR brand of servos, Tower doesn't seem to carry them.

P.S. I meant 6 cell!! Heavens forbid it if it was 6 AMPS!!!! :puke:

6 cell? wowsers... your average rechargable is 6v/5 cell. You might be able to get away with it, tho, due to most recievers having BEC (Battery Eleminator Circuitry) that reduces the voltage down to 6 volts. Anything more than that, and your servos will fry.

You know what, I made the same mistake twice, show how much sleep I've been getting lately, combine that with a NASTY case of the Flu, and I'm all but dead. Anyhow, I meant to say a "5 cell, 6 volt, 1100Mah (Milli-amp) battery.
By the way Heartbreak, what's up man???

Nope....I just sit in front of a PC all day and just need a pit stop from work every hour or so.....but I did try a few servos before deciding in that as the set I liked....first off these are the first ones that gave me no trouble...I say if it ain't broke don't fix it....I know plenty of people who use the airtronics brand and KO propo as well.......those servos will run a lil more, not much, maybe 30-40 for the set.....

Basically you want a real fast servo on the throttle, but you need strong and lots of torque too.....the faster throttle give you more control in the air for correcting bad jumps.....you need the higher torqe servo for steering in case you come off a jump crooked or turning...remember the front wheels want to get straight......your servo is fighting engine strength as well as ground resistance......

Nada lot, me amigo. I just got my RC18B, so I'm happy bout that... Waiting on a few ebay purchases..

Heh, no worries bout the battery mixup ;) Just makin' sure you're not running a 7.2v pack - that's a surefire way to roast a reciever (if the BEC goes out, the servos too).

the 1100mah pack is the best thing you could get - excellent purchase. You'll be amazed how much you'll save on AA batts. Next thing you may want to consider is a rechargable setup for your transmitter. You can get single AA rechargable cells thru your local hobby shop. I've got 1100 nicad AA's for my M8. Course, you'll need a charger for them - you could probably get one from the maker of your cars' radio. To tell if your radio is 'rechargable ready' look for a little round plug jack on it. It'll look like the power adapter jack for something like an older game console. If you got that, you're good-to-go. Otherwise, you'll need an 8-AA-cell (or two four-cell packs wired in series) holder from Radio Shack (about 8 bucks) to hold the cells in a 'temporary pack' for charging.

Personally, I run a Hitec 645MG - it has metal gears in it, and pretty good torque (I forget the specs). It's enough to haul the front tires over in a snappy mannor (fast as I can turn the wheel on the radio). I've got the same servo from about 5 years ago, and it still works perfect. Altho, it does do a twitch on recenter every once in a while - My guess is the thing that tells it that it's centered is going out .

I still haven't had a chance to finish break-in on the mugen (doggone weather turned rainy here).

I've had that bug that's goin around - tain't fun at all. I'm probably going to end up with another case of it, due to havin to go out at 10/11pm to get my neice from her whopper-flopper job. About the best thing ya can do is rest, and put warm compresses over your nose (loosens the gunk right up). And get plenty of Chlorocedine (sp). It's OTC stuff, and runs about $5 or so. Whoever discovered that stuff is awesome, lol.

Take it easy, and don't stress yourself too much.

So, I get it, you pretty much get what you pay for, and you pay for what you need. I will probably go with 645MG's. Those have been recommened to me alot, and I think I'll give em a try.
Heartbreak, I'm better now, it was a 36 hour bug that knocked me on my *&!, but it's gone... Thanks though..

Yah, give the 645MG a shot - a years' warrenty is definatly worth it. And for the price, it's a very good servo.

Those 36 hour bugs are the worst; they hit hard and fast.

I'm thinkin this weekend I'll finish break-in on the mugen - I had the chance to ask a fire-fighter about some vacant lots (they are the best people to ask; they know the city like the back of their hands, even knows' who owns which lot). They even pointed out some areas' that are just out of city limits, so Roscoe P. Coltrain can't harrass me.
