Ok, I just ordered the HDLoader software for the PS2 and scooped up a 80GB Hard Drive to drop into the Playstation. I wanted to see if anyone else has used a hard drive on the PS2 and what are your opinions on how it performed.

I have a HD in my playstation and to be honest I save my games on my memory card, lmao.

I got it so I could save the actual game to the hard drive and play it off of there, instead of using the disc. I didn't get it so store my game progress on. I will use my 32X memory card for that.

The HD is supposed to help cut down on the load time of the games and give you a smoother game play. Plus, you can also borrow a friends game or rent a game, then simply download it to the HD. That saves you from having to go out and buy the game. (not that I will do that)

I have HD Advance, same as hd loader and a maxtor 120 gig hard drive. Loading times are faster its very cool. Just plug into your network adaptor and your set. Good luck.

WORD, where can I get this stuff? How much does it cost and how many games will it hold?

consolepoint.com has them cheaper. and they ship within three days I payed 140 for the software and a 120 gig harddrive.

Is there anything else you can do with them? PC networking play video over network? I wouldn't shell that out myself for a faster load time, but would like some more functionality

I got the HD Loader software for $30 w/ free shipping. You can scoop up a hard drive from any electronics store. Circuit city actually has a deal on a 40GB for $80-$50 (mail in rebate) = $30. So for $60 you can get the whole setup. You figure, by the time you load 2 games onto the HD, it has already paid for itself in full. BTW, the last thing that is needed is the Sony Online Network Adapter.

I scooped up the 40GB and swapped it out w/ the 80GB in my computer. I will be using the 80GB on the PS2. I can't wait for the software to get here so I can try it out. From my understanding, one game takes about 4GB or less to store on the HD. So if you have a 40GB, that would roughly be 10 games at the least.

The only downside that I have read, is that it is not compatible w/ every game out on the market and some of the games can not be played online (however, they can still be played regular).

This chart shows some games that are compatible and how much space they take up on the HD.

I think the object is not only to gain the faster load time, but to allow you to go rent a game or borrow a game and install it on your HD. Thus you have a copy of the newest titles and only paid the rental price for it. You are basically being able to get brand new $50 games for nothing. (not that I would do it). Good thing for the Block Buster Video Pass.

I guess you could say they are like radar guns. They are not designed & sold w/ the intention of breaking the law, but they can be easily used for that purpose.

Another thing that I have read w/ the HD, is that you can download patches and other things from the internet. For example, you can get an extra level or mission to play, etc...

I am wondering how this thing works?

Install hard drive in PS2 and pop the HD loader cd in ,and play the games you have store in the HD?

If that is the case. I will going to get this software. I can exchange games with my neighbor :D

Make sure you get a maxtor hard drive. It is recommened that you use that for your hard drive. others just arn't compatable.

I don't think the 120 HD is gonna suit me So I am going to have to upgrade to 200 GIG
How many gig can HD Loader support? Hd Advance can support up to 200 GIG. With HDAdvance there are a max of 20-25 games that you can't do which is a pretty good percent.

It is very simple plug in your network adaptor and power on with the disc in.

For people with the new ps2 slim. There will be a version relased soon.

I have a 120 gb hd in my xbox. I may contemplate this setup. It obviously requires a PS2 modchip or a daughter board of some kind?

no mod chip required!! as was said all you need is a hard drive maxtor no western digitals ps2 network adapter, and hdloader or hdadvance..ithink they are the same program..
start the ps2 up with the hdloader software in the drive. it will bring you to the hdloader screen then just choose to run a game you already converted or tell it to convert a game..when you tell it to convert it will ask you to put in the game hit ok and it will start converting. games take from 1gig to 4 gig each... ver 1 hdloader uses hard drives up to 120gig ver 2 witch i quess mayhem has will accept 200gig...not only could you "borrow or rent games" and have them but it will put an end to scratched discs forever since once loaded you can put them away....last note does not work for ANY online game you need the original disk in the drive for those....but i have one and HIGHLY recomend it

Actually if your a nerd there are programs out there where you can transfer your games to your PC then edit the code to be able to use online.

Mayhem, What's the difference b/t HDLoader & HDAdvance?

Is it just the that HDL only supports up to 120GB and HDA can go to 200GB? Other than that are they the same thing, or does one allow you to play more games than the other?

I know that Hd Advance supports the Largest TOC for both dvd and cd games that's why is comes with two discs. HDL doesn't have the largest. Other than that I don't think so. This things great and I'm sure HDL is too but I think they stoped making Hd Loader but you can still buy it while supplies last.
