I just picked up a set of panther tires to replace my proline hammers. and figured i would post up some comparison pics, and my opinions since we all know you guys just love my opinions.

Fist off i was really impressed with just how soft these things are. compared to the hammers they feel half as thick, and are a lot softer. the hammers and panthers are both running memory foams to keep it fair.

I ran the panthers for a couple of passes on the landscaping, and i get a lot more squish and a ton more traction with them. i barely spun a tire on the rocks even when i was light on the tires. i had to watch out so i didn't snap something with the extra traction.

the only thing i see that the hammers did better was the sidewalls. soft is good for traction, but they fold over easy. normaly this is fine unless your trying to side hill and then it could be a problem. i think the added traction of these tires, far surpass the small issue of the super soft sidewalls.

the rubber on them is simular to the rubber on the summit where it feels sticky when its clean and dry.

so far i am happy with the panthers. but i will have to check them out on the wood pile tomorrow.

panthers on the left, hammers on the right.

yep on side hilling the panthers memory foams are the best, there are little things you can do to help that other than buying new foams...or get new foams...i ran nwtt #5 reach foams in those (tall foams that really feeled them out) in front and then i ran #8's in the back for a while. then i switched from #8's to a set and a half of panther memory foams in the back so one and a half foams in each tire, helped out on side hilling.

hammers imo were right there in competition with the rock claws (not comp claws), and then the cougars were still and are still better imo.

the hammers were good tires, dont get me wrong. they are harder then the panthers. they hold up well though and dont show much wear at all after all the running joey and i put on them.

it depends on what you are doing, and how you drive. i drive slow and creep over things. the panthers squish and conform to the rocks nicely. now say if you were doing more like rock racing. the hammers would probably do better. they have more sidewall strength. i bet the hammers would do better on a scaler rig as well.

I just ordered a set of Panther tyres for my Comp truck (AX10 with extensive mods) and wondered how you fond they worked wit hthe standard foams. I've spoken to a few UK guys and they basically told me to not use the Panther foams. I'm getting back to the guy I spoke to today about them to get the skinny on what he reckons is wrong with them.

I have some ProLine memory foams on the rig at the moment in some Rock Claws, but wanted some taller tyres to lift the axle pumpkins off the floor a bit better, and something of a slightly softer compound but similar tread to grip better.

One thing that bothered me about them is the side walls are very tall and the compound is pretty soft, so I'm wondering if putting some stiff foam against the outside edges of the tyre will help that?

i only ran the foams that came with them. they are softer then the hammers, but not overly soft. they will roll over though if you put it to them hard. the foams seem to be pretty close to the ones that were in the hammers. so i think its just that the tires are that much softer. both tires have memory foams in them.

the panther memory foams are very soft imo, i dont like them, the best setup on panthers, for me, was nwtt #5 foams with 1 and a half foams in each back tire. but thats just me. with foam setups being almost limitless-its hard to say whats best for the person driving.

I got my Panther Cougars on Tuesday but I'm holding off fitting them as I'm not happy with the foams. They are way harder than my ProLine memory foams, meaning the probably won't give well enough on the rock, but they are far too soft to hold up such tall tyres on the sidewall.

I had a word with the hobby store guy I bought these off (he's a little 1-man band but he's a good guy) and he's using Schumacher buggy foams slipped inside the stock Panther foams, giving a 2 stage effect. We both looked at ProLines 2-stage foams but they are way too pricey when you can buy a set of 4 Schui buggy tyre foams for half what one pair of ProLines costs.

I'll report back when I get the buggy foams and get the 2 married up on my rig.

in my opinion there isnt any tires that come with good foams, i just buy them with foams so i have foams to put back into them if i sell em. a stock foam is just that, a stock foam.

Hey there....in my opinion... Losi Claws and Badlands are the best but....I've noticed everyone has there favorite but I think thats because you get use to driving the tire. I have team mates that run...Chizels..panthers..rovers..jConcepts Rocks... and some lines they have no issues while others do... One thing I've noticed...The LOSI hook up on everything..Yes they are small but they really hook. I have Chizels and Hammers but its all about the setup too..
It kinda sucks because you run a set for a while and get use to it and then they come out with something different.. Too many to choose from:D:D

i don't know much about what tires are out there but in my opinion i don't like the hammers that much, it doesn't seem like they grab the rocks very well, then again it may just be that most the rocks where i live are like sandstone, and with the foam i don't know much about it
