Besides, I have this new scx-6 moon buggy portal project money pit on my desk at the moment.

The price is disheartening. I saw this today and still have “wtf?” on my mind. The Ripper was $1900. The company saw that kit repeatedly flipped for thousands of dollars and said “hold up, that’s money we could be putting in OUR pocket!”

This one will never have the same resale boom as the Ripper. There’s no realistic room for “rare collectible tax” to be placed on top of the initial cost. But I digress, whales will be whales.

The price is actually perfect. For those who can afford it, $3500 is sorta irrelevant. If you can't afford it, you probably can't afford $2500 for it. Shaving $500 to $1000 off the price doesn't change market share.

They are just catering to the "absolutely can afford it" crowd. I would have priced it at $3999. It wouldn't make a bit of difference to their intended market.

Justifying an intended niche market is the foundation of a money grab scenario. It’s the morals of it that bothers me more than anything. I guess I just need to look at it as a piece of art. Art’s value is only justifiable by the one who makes the purchase. Also, perhaps the people at Vanquish do purely enjoy making art in the form of toy trucks.

They need a 'Sharper Image" rtr version, gold plated with Coach interior. That'll get your $$$ up. Install a working Rolex in the dash and you've got a crawler even Thurston Howl could enjoy!

Man, I remember the days of sharper image. Loved that place and we had one in our mall. Such cool widgets. Crap, we are old.
I remember being "not allowed" in Sharper Image with no adult. 🙄
They had some cool stuff but a lot of it was visciously overpriced junk. 🤣
The catalog reminded me of the 'in air' shopping magazines on airlines planes.
$47 tin of mixed nuts, $900 neck pillow... 🙄
Some of that stuff though.... some of it I was just POSITIVE I couldn't live without! 🤩😍😎
Def a favorite of mine!!!

I still get the sharper image catalog occasionally. it's mostly gadgets aimed at geezers now. sometimes I will see something interesting and a quick web search will find the same exact item for much less. I remember when they had cool cutting edge stuff, not any more.
