I'm a noob, picked up a duratrax axis the other day. The guy I bought if form told me he ran it once then put it away and the next time he went to use it the pull start wouldn't work. So I pulled off the pull start which worked fine off the motor and then opened up the motor to find brown tarnish that had gummed up the crank. I assume he ran the car then let it sit and this is old gas. What will cut though this suff and clean up the motor so I can run it.

Thanks for the help

Might try carb cleaner, brake cleaner or nitro blast. You'll have to watch what you use so you don't damage the seals unless you can get a complete seal kit for the engine. Also watch the bearings.

FYI. Brake cleaner will degrade the rubber seals.

Normally, some DA, q-tips, paper towels and elbow grease will get enough off to make things work properly. Don't attempt to use any type of an abrasive like sandpaper, steel wool or anything like that.
