I have problems with the clutchs locking up on my 9.5. I have it shimmed so there is a little play in the end bell. When the clutch decides to let go the washers are all warped. I'm at my whitts ends with this clutch. How much play should you have on the clutch bell? Also it seems like the screw that holds the clutch bell on seems to tighten itself up.

You should have it shimmed so that you can crank the endbell screw down completely without binding. It sounds like you don't have the flywheel shimmed quite right and need a little more room for the CB bearings.

it sounds to me as if your shimming at the bell itself. what you want to do is determine how many shims you need, and then put them behind the brass cone behind the flywheel. then once everything is fully assembled you can crank down on the screw that holds on the clutchbell. there should be about 0.2mm of play for the clutchbell to slide forward and back along the pilot shaft. if need be I'm sure your LHS can show you how to shim and set it up properly.

a picture of your grenaded clutch would help in determining the problem too.

The washer that holds the end bell on seems to be the issue. The washer seems to "round" out and distort. I using 1 washer behind the corn and 1 washer between the screw and end bell bearing. Also for some reason the the shaft doesn't sit flush with the end bell. It is about 3-4mm to short.

ok try a thinner shim behind the brass cone. if nessessary remove all the shims. you want the pilot shaft to be futher out than the CB. also, loose the washer between the CB screw and the bearing.
