Well I did it ... Took a MAXX that I just finished putting together and am set to trade it. It's an extended chassis 3.3 that I am trading for a 4tech. The 4tech is a 2.5 with 2 bodies and an extra roller. I have an extra 3.3 motor thought would be fun or possible make a nice project out of the roller. However before I do it I know a few of you brilliant minds can tell me is the 4tech good bad indifferent? There isn't a whole lot on it in the touring section.

A 4tec isn't that great. It has real problems getting debris in the drive belts.

+1, I think you're getting the short end of this deal. If you were just buying it out right, and the price was right, sure, but trading a T-Maxx for it isn't that great.

I knew I asked you guys for a reason. So to start out with an on-road type car that will mostly be recreational any opinions. Make sure it's shaft driven or are there belt drives that are better??

What about a hpi rs4 3 evo+? I've had my eye on one for a while, but also I've looked at those ofna and they seem real nice its just no hobby shops carry them or parts for them around me. I wouldn't mind ordering from a shop across the boarder shipping rates don't kill me it's just the import fee that does.

as someone who owns a hpi rs4 3 evo+ i can say their great. and there shaft driven. you do not really wanna use a belt because touring cars are so low that they do pick up pebbles that would get stuck in a belt and snap em.
I've had an occasional pebble get stuck in the gearbox teeth and turn into a fine powder (the pebble not the teeth) would imagine a rubber belt would just snap under comparable strain. although touring cars are very low mines 5mm ground clearance only run it in carparks and no loose chippings the underside of my chassis has a million scrapes from driving it on rough concrete and i snapped 2 wheel axel cups from driving on the rough. I'm sure you can adjust the ride hight but i'd prefer to keep my low center of gravity.
hpi for smooth carparks and high speed excitement. t-maxx for everything else.

I prefer a shaft drive to the belt drive for the reason that I posted earlier. My on road stuff is either RWD or shaft driven AWD.

I happend to own a 4-tech & like Hamz has stated 4-techs can be hassel @ times.. I love that my 4-tech is Belt Driven & the 3.3 engine coupled up with the 4-tech's 2 speed trans get's it up to speed fairly well & I am most happy with the speed's the 4-tech run's in its stock form. How ever the low clearance of this car can & is a pain sometimes.
When I run my 4-tech in my bashing area I go with my 4x4 RIG's I take a street broom & broom the area off for rocks / twig's / that sort of stuff & I norm don't have issues with the car. At one point I even had an add on RCNT's Marketplace for sale of my 4-tech but then decided against it. Even thou my car sits on my R/C Shelf 80% of the time because I run my 4x4 RIG's most of the time it's still a blast to get this speed demon out & turn some laps.... I would suggest NOT A TRADE for the MAXX but I would deff pick up a 4-tech anyways " new or used "

Like more guys have said a belt drive is great in places there there is nothing that can be picked up.... like a track that is swept often. If there is a chance of other than perfect conditions, shaft drive is the way to go.

Thank you guys I WILL NOT be making this trade. I had questions about it but want to get into a touring car however most of the time I will be on the streets around my house which are not always the cleanest and I will be dam@$# if I am going to go sweep the street with a push broom lol. anyway I will hold the MAXX for now and keep looking.
