Go for a winter drive??? Good or bad idea?

Totally understandable - but as a guy that wants to get into RC trucks (finally) AND be someone that can contribute a lot to the members of this RC site, as well as others - it's only fair that business earned off the site, should also support this site as well.

If I ran a board, I wouldn't want "shamless pluggers" running rampant.

Anyway - shoot me a note, and we'll talk!

For everyone else that reads this: Is there a market for custom decals for RC cars of good/great quality at a fair price? I've had a hard time finding anyone on the Internet that does such a thing - and by custom, I don't mean flame jobs, but more the badging and individual labels.

thanks everyone!

I saw someone on E-Bay a while back offering them but not as of late.

One of my customers prints custom labels and vinyl. Just e-mail it to him in a Coral file and I have it in a day or so. The only issues are as follows.

30.00 for a 6x8

Gradients are not good for smaller units, they show up as dots and are to far apart.

LMAO.....Yooz guys are starting to remind me of my buddy that was driving his brand new Nitro truck with spike (I think it was the original Maxx) and hit a thin spot and went through the ice..he never got his truck back!

Driving on snow and ice is a freaking blast if you've got the right equipment!

Peace

Too late HB, the 9th circus court poo poo'd on that idea. I think it's a crime. Oops, sorry, wrong thread. Vrap, now it's gonna get moved to the FFA.

Hell Yeah! Check your PM's

I made chains for my Maxx. I still have pics some where on the HD. I saw some on e-bay at one point as well. I have also seen a snow plow for the front.

Putting your ride away for the winter is for wimps!
Its easy for me to say that living in Northern CA. :mex:

MMM, custom labels!!!

well - until I sponsor up I don't want to talk about the decals much - after I pay and am an actual advertiser, then we can go to town and I'll participate in the sellers forum

thanks!

Well, after 6 feet of snowfall in 24hours, its hard to run my r.c.'s. I usually end up waiting a couple months for the great thaw to come around so I can find them again.

Welcome to the site Rich! And indoor tracks around you in Roch?

Christian,

Buffalo!!!

Nice to see someone close by! I donno if there's any tracks close by or not - haven't looked into that just yet, have to get a truck first! (Savage 25 RTR is looking like the front runner)

You got any tracks up by you? I'd love to make a day/night trip to race and then blow my nickels at the Casino (either side now)

shoot me an e-mail sometime at [email protected]

laterz...

I run in snow, and something nobody has mentioned yet (or maybe they did and I just skimmed by). ...

Cold temps make truck parts VERY brittle.

If you take great care to snow proof the truck you may be able to protect your servos, receiver pack, wires and motor. However you can't protect against cold. If you drive at top speed and take 3'-5' of air on jumps (like me) you WILL break transfer yolks, A arms, shock towers and anything else plastic (which is everything else....like me). And then you'll be out hundreds of dollars (like me)....just waiting for next winter to come. :)

Snow? No problemo. I think everyone has mentioned the downfalls to running in snow, and I know for a fact that not a single one of them has shied away from those issues.

Heck, the first real snowfall we had in Virginia Beach I had my truck out in it the same morning.

Things to be concerned with:
1. Extreme cold and plastics. Mentioned in a previous post. Brittle plastics become more brittle. Soft plastics (ie flexible parts) become brittle. Brittle is bad, but stock parts are cheap to replace. AND the stock Savage RTR is pretty beefy to begin with. Wouldn't worry too much about this.
2. Water (frozen or otherwise) and electronics. I may be the only one on here who does not go out of his way to waterproof his electronics and then runs in some of the most wet conditions. I have submarined my Maxx, buried it up to the chassis in mud, run it in snow, etc., etc., etc. The only thing that I have had to replace was a weak ass stock servo. Waterproofing is a good idea, but it is not an absolute...if you take care to clean up after the fun.
3. Cold and engines. Breaking in an engine in the heart of winter is not recommended. Why? It is hard to get the engine up to proper temps for a proper break in. If the engine is broken in, the heat gun/hair dryer method of pre-heating the engine is an excellent idea. Saves on engine wear and allows for easier starts.

I would re-post my winter fun movie, but I am underway aboard an air craft carrier at the moment. When I get back home I'll repost it, and you can decide what fun can be had or not.

Other than that...

Welcome to RCNT.

Oh...decals custom made or otherwise are always a big seller. Bring it on.

SkyMaxx - I think I speak for a lot of people on this board, but sorry bud - I don't care WHAT kind of weather you get in VA - it ain't comin' CLOSE to what we get up here! LOL (Christian - little help please!!!) hahahaha

I figure what will happen in my RC life this:

1 - get the Savage25 RTR mid-October (no time for a kit as much as I'd love to)
2 - take it out - and break something, from what I've read, the dogbones
3 - order stronger dogbones, wait to arrive - by this time it's November
4 - shut the truck down for the winter and save some money here and there and ho it up BIG TIME for the next 6 months
5 - once the first nice day in March arrives, should it this year, go to town and run the "new" beast
6 - see what new toy HPI has for us, and sell the Savage25 on eBay as "hopped up and hardly run"

LOL - the more I read that, the more I don't think I should get one before winter, but ahhhh f' it - I will!

I *may* have a report on the decal quality either this Thursday or next, depending on when the machine shows up - and as soon as I'm a paid advertiser, I'll post in a few forums about what I can offer everyone.

And Christian, since you're an admin now - get me a response to my ad mail I sent to Mike and haven't heard back from - I want to talk details with him, or now you, about it!

laterz from Rottenchester, NY!

by the way - anyone else COOL enough to have the initials R.C. ? (full name Rich Calnan) - I mean, we're all cool, and I'm not until I get a truck, but when I do ... y'all better freakin' WATCH out cause RC'll be in the house! Oh man - that was GAY! HAHAHA

We dont get winter here - we get the North Pole swooping down and landing in our back yard for a few months! Seriously, I can't run in the winter time because the snow is too deep. You try running in 3 feet of powder! It just doesn't work! lol

I am thinking about getting one of the newly revised RC snowmobiles though!

R.C. - send me an email with what you are looking for or a P.M. - Ill get you squared away ;)

Aww man Christian, your just not thinking creatively.....

Clear a path, make a nice ice ramp. Then use the soft powdery stuff to land in. This way you can practice your backflips with your buggy and not have to worry about breaking anything. Instant winter fun.
