Hi folks. I have an HPI Savage X 4.6 and have had all the normal problems but my most recent is that my glow plugs last about twenty minutes before not working. I am having problems with my gearbox not shifting into second gear too and wonder if the two are linked ? Possibly the engine getting too hot from reving high in first gear rather than a lower rev as it should be in second ? I have set up my carb from base settings to start a fresh tonight and she is running very well with lots of acceleration and still blue smoke. I have wound out the second gear allen key to fully out and its still not selecting second gear. I am using OS No. 8 Glow Plugs. Maybe I need HPI glow plugs ?

yea id stick to the hpi plugs, sometimes they can be touchy on which plugs will work well, some it doesn't matter which plugs you use but doesn't hurt to use factory plugs, id pull your tranny apart and make sure everything is as it should be and lube it up

i use medium colds in the force version of the engine mine just brunt medium plugs out in a tank of fuel

What fuel are you running and what temp is your engine getting too? Is the center coil damaged or missing? The OS #8 should be fine in a 4.6 with 20% nitro. Make sure there are no pieces from a broken plug in the cylinder to damge the next plug installed.
I suspect tuning is the root cause of both problems.

Thank you all for your replies. The glow plug looks like brand new ( coil still in new condition ) but does not work. I have used BIG BANG 20% fuel and have ran about 4 gallon through her and never had an issue with glow plugs
