glow plug?

Hard to say without showing you. Best thing is to get it in there till it gives a little some tension then a 1/4 turn. Over tighten it and it'll be a bear to get off or you ruin the threads.

I just snug my up enough to make it so it wont fall out. I dont want to overtighten, cuz like Diver said, they can be a pain to try to get out if overtightened. Plus I dont want to hurt any threads.

On most stock cast heads, the threads can strip rather easily... happend to me twice with my stock gt .15 head. When i went to the .21, i got a nova head, and the metal seemed twice as strong... I make mine snug then 1/4-1/2 turn more... i have actually broken off a glow plug trying to tighten it... wasn't fun trying to get out... i never have the right tools for anything!

If you are using standard plugs with the copper gasket, screw the plug in until it bottems out, then turn it 1/4 turn more. The copper gasket will flatten and deform after the first use, so they should be replaced every time you remove the plug. However, since replacement gaskets aren't easy to come by, you should pay close attention to how much pressure you exert on the wrench when you first tighten it, then only use that much pressure when removing and reinstalling the same plug.

If you are using turbo (taper seat) plugs, you only need to snug them in, 1/8 to 1/4 turn after botteming. If you torque them you may have a hard time getting them out.

For reference, between 4-8 ft./lbs is all that's required, just enough to seat into the copper gasket. That's a good umph but not a dying strain. :D

Just enough pressure since the heat will expand the metal anyways.

I make it extra tight with a cross wrench.
You should've read more articles on how tight to make it.

I thought you shouldnt read about things in the RC world diver?

I have been tightning glowplugs the same ammount on all my engines, I can understand if your not strong enough to loosen it or dont have the right tools, a cross wrench makes it easy.

EDIT: I put loctite on mine.

Figured you read about everything else, why wouldn't you read about this? Never said you shouldn't read the magazines. Just don't read it and take everything as gold. Read and find out for yourself. Loctite on your glowplug? Not a smart thing to do as well as not necessary. Use common sense! Put the magazine away and read your manual.

I was kiding about loctite.

I'm sorry if you think researching something before you buy it is stupid, I think its smart.

I dont read one persons opinion and take it as gold, I make sure my research is accurate.

I say thats better then wasting money on things just to test and see how it performs.

Whatever, i'm not arguing about how much to tighten a glow plug with you, I always make mine extra tight, that doesn't mean so tight I'm gonna strip the head trying to take it off later, perhaps I should have been more specific.

You need to read more carefully then. And the loctite remark ... yeah, ok. Research? everyone should do it, just don't base it completely on the mags. Go to a track and see what's being used. Observe and ask. Compile the two and decide for yourself.

K man, I dont base my research on mags.

I dont even have a subscribtion, okay?

I think you need to stop assuming things.

If you want, go on AIM and show me where I said something that was not accurate.

Like I said before, i'm not going to argue with you, I feel bad enough for saying somthing back to you and ruining this thread.

Locktite? Are you serious? I'm not meaning this as being a smart ass just kinda curious if you were serious or not. I've NEVER had any problems with glow plugs coming undone, so I think Loctite might be a little overkill.
