is there anyway i could use a 7.2 pack and run a bear wire to plug and light it that way?i was at my lhs yesterday and spent all my $ on fuel?i dropped igniter now it dosnt work....any alternative would be apreciated

I've heardpeople soldering alagator clips onto the pack's wires and grounding one on the cooling head and attaching one to the glow plug. Don't quote me on this though.

wish i would of read that last post before i did what i did...oooops

if i put the plug into the igniter without it being in the engine will it get hot?not sure if engine grounds it.

The igniter has a + and - on the connection. The EZstart needs the yellow grounding wire.
If you used the battery with the glow plug in the engine, you should take off the head and look for little pieces of melted filament in there before you try to start it again.

By the way, the worst that could happen, using a bare wire in a confined space within the head, is a dead short and a possible explosion of the battery.

not using ez start its a dubro igniter,so will the plug get hot outside engine so i can tell if its working at all?

Yes it will, since the center pin is + and the outer lock ring is the negative. It's a common way of testing glow plugs or igniter power.

I've used a "D" battery rigged up with alligator clips before. Quite a hassle though. First test a glow plug thats out and see if you can get it to glow. Problem was getting the positive to not touch the head and pulling the pullstart at the same time

If you're really insistent on running a cheaply made glow ignitor, get a single D cell holder at your local radio shack, and an Ofna Glow Panel lead (you can get variations on this from Tower Hobbies under the Great Planes brand). Simply solder the red to red and black to black, and you have a cheap lighter.

However, Ofna makes one that's a single piece that uses AA, C, or D (pending on which you get). Just have a look on ebay. A new one from a Chop Shop should run you under $10.
