do you crawl indoor smore often than outdoors? i think thats a big factor not mentioned often, the little trucks seem to me to shine most indoors, they rock and roll outdoors but man i dont wanna clean it lolol
i love the 18th scale for indoor fun, but a lot of people on the forum who's opinions i trust say the scx30 is awesome.
you should get one and let us know!
i want the black chevy

This one?

The drifting part was a mistake. Please read the message above.
If I do go for a scx30 what upgrades do I do first? (60$ left in budget if I get the one frome my LHS)
I caught that, I was adding it for public knowledge.
These30's don't really need upgrading. I would wait for wheels and tires to arrive on the market, maybe get some shocks, other than that nothing.
I put a neo beast in mine and will probably swap it to a Holmes 55turn 050 motor just for science. It doesn't need a new motor though. Upgrade as something breaks. Work on weight reduction on the body first. Slap some tungsten puddy on the axles, you can get it from Cabela's or other fishing stores. The brass steering knuckles give more steering angle, allegedly.
It makes me sorry I ever bought the SCX24. 🤷‍♂️ 🙃

I guess I am the odd man out.
Now, to be fair, I started on 24s and I haven't done any mods to my 30.

But I really like the 24s better

My Basecamp, out of the box, performed better than my 30 white Jeep.
Now, the Jeep does still have all of the accessories on it. Removing them will help I am sure.

I still think, dollar for dollar the SCX24 Basecamp is the best all around value.

If you're willing to spend more, yes the Redcat Apex is amazing. My buddy has one and it is most impressive. But's it's significantly more $

We do tend to fall in love with what introduced us to the hobby.

I think for a lot of people, to get the performance they want out of the 24's they become expensive builds. Most of the ones I see at local comps or at the crawl center look like mini Apex 18's with how wide, low and giant the tires are.

Just watch Cape Crawlers series on competing 24's and you'll see the trend to the builds; everything is changed.

The 30's seem to be able to deliver the driving dynamics people come to expect without having to do anything, really.

That's a great summary of the 30. I wanted nothing to do with it until I drove one and was totally shocked at what it could do. Really increases the fun factor.

Thanks!

I know from experience, when something doesn't work as you picture it or it is a reliability nightmare it zaps the absolute fun right out of this hobby.

Just depends on what body you go with. If you buy the Jeep or Bronco, yank the spare tire and all the scale stuff off first. It just makes them top heavy and hang up on everything. Do the stock wheel mod where you can flip them around and get a wider track width for more side-hill stability. Injora brass front knuckles make a big difference on any of them. Install those, do the wheel mod, and then reset your steering end points for a tighter turning radius. Get an extra battery also. They are very capable out of the box, but those few mods really make them shine.
Check this thread for other tips and mods.

What makes the base camp better than any other scx24? Is there something different?

I am quite familiar with Adam and with other Youtubers.

I do agree they take some tweaking to really dial in.

But I still think, out o the box, my Basecamp performed better Than my SCX30.
My 30 is a tipping machine. My Basecamp was not.

I think it largely has to do with all of the up top weight.

But there is no comparison on what each was able to do out of the box, even accounting for scale.
