Sick of my current inner spring mattress and am looking at the gel memory foam setups. Any body have one? Do they get hot like regular memory foam? Also, are they annoyingly temperature sensitive? So if its cold, the bed is like concrete?

@slowngreen when we was looking at mattresses we checked out dozens of them and ended up buying a tempur-pedic. I know the lower end models were either much firmer than we wanted or had the issue of getting very warm. We ended up buying the tempur-pedic rhapsody several years ago. The Rhapsody if I recall correctly had a slightly different foam and a different cover over it to help with the heat issues.

We rarely get hot in the Rhapsody, for the most part it does stay cooler - or at least compared to the lower models. I think the Rhapsody has been replaced with the TEMPUR-Breeze. Over all we've been very happy with the tempur-pedic and while they are a bit pricey I don't think we'll own anything different.

We have been sleeping on an icomfort for the last 5 years and we love it! It's not hot like memory foam and I don't notice a difference from summer to winter but we don't have much of a winter here

I have a 4" thick memory foam on top of a good mattress. I sleep like a baby. I wake up every couple of hours crying and looking for tittie.
Same with the foam topper and mattress here. I've slept better with that than I can remember.

@WoodiE I did a bunch of review reading online for a 13" memory foam mattress that was $270. All the reviews where positive, not any negatives, so i ordered it......Way way way too soft for me. Even read a couple reviews on it being good for heavy people but it didnt work for me.
Now I'm not sure what to do. I'm out the money, theres a no return policy too. I put it for sale on Craig's. I wanted to spend $500 but couldn't so I took a chance and shot myself in the foot.

We have a temper pedic. It didn't/doesn't feel any warmer than a typical pillow top. However, after 4 years, my wife and I don't sleep as good on it anymore. Hard to get comfortable and we wake up in pain most days. At first, I couldn't lay on it for more than 5 minutes without it causing a 2 hour nap. Also, when we woke in the morning we weren't stiff and sore like the previous pillowtop left us. Either we got more sensitive in general or the mattress is failing.

You might look at the Sleep Number systems as a replacement. It's an alternative that might be better as it can be made softer or firmer as you need. My sister loves hers as much as I like my memory foam topper/mattress combo.

If you do, get one with memory foam on top or something. Otherwise, it's like sleeping on a $12 camping mattress.

I used to wake up in pain all the time, but it wasn't because of my mattress, it was because I was spending too much time sedentary and my lower back muscles were doing too much work, while my upper back muscles were totally atrophied, apparently. Did some simple exercises recommended by a physical therapist I started seeing once or twice a day for a couple months and the pain disappeared! And for the record I have a memory foam mattress and like it a lot. I think its got a spring core though.

I've heard memory foam can get quite hot. Personally I sleep on a wooden plank in Rolexs' cellar. The only memories I get are from what rolex did the day before...

I live in an outhouse that I rent from @digger, our resident hillbilly. What I did the day before was join him for a roadkill barbecue with lots of corn on the cob and 'moonshine'.
Pleasant memories.

"Corn squeezins'" on the cob?
