Max8G2 2250kv combo, best gearing for high speed bashing? Mainly just jump my rigs but try to send them to the moon. I do have M2C motor mount and they say 26T minium for pinion gear, so where does that leave me for a spur gear? Any help is appreciated. 6s or 4s, doesn’t matter.

If the recommend 26t minimum I can only assume they are using stock spur gears. You can look up gearing charts for your rigs but it's usually way easier to change pinion gears than spur gears.

26t pinion is recommended with the m2c motor mount which I have. So a gearing chart won’t help me much considering I also have a different KV motor than stock. The more I look into it I’m better off at 26/46 or trying 26/50. I appreciate the reply!🫡

yes, but the gearing chart is still helpful because your transmission will reduce or overdrive the input depending on pinion and spur. You can figure it all out yourself or use a gearing chart. If the chart includes estimated speed then it will be different if the motor is changed. but the transmission is the transmission.

I put this together a few years ago when looking into gearing for our X-Maxx build. No idea how accurate it is, because I don't even remember calculating this stuff.

Gear for motor temps. Driving style, running conditions and ambient temp will all affect temperatures. One gearing that works for someone else, may not work for you. I’ve gotten RC’s where the stock gearing out of the box is too tall for the kind of driving I do. An infrared temp gun is worth its weight in gold and is cheap insurance for the price we pay for these motors.

Start with stock gearing and take motor temps at the can after 10-12 minutes. 160°F-170°F is what you’re shooting for. If it’s more than that, drop a tooth or two on the pinion and try again. If it’s less, then you have room to put a larger pinion on.

I’d also recommend take any motor fans off when you do this and put them back on when you’re done. But that’s your call, I personally don’t trust fans as a way to bring an overly hot motor down to safe temperatures. But that’ll depend on your comfort level.
