I'm trying to gear my Type SS so I can use my 39 and 43 spur gears. But I keep tearing up the gears. I checked out this chart, but I don't understand what is axle distance (gear mesh). Can anyone give me a quick lesson on gearing for my Type SS? OR check out the site below, maybe someone could explain.

Thanks

Hey, I don't know how to read that chart in peticular, but I have run that gear ratio in my SS before (with the purple clutch bell gears, the yellow you might have a problem) I race and it has much more power with the OS strapped in it, and it has not chewed any gears out of it.
Take a small piece of paper, rip it so you can wedge it inbetween you clutch bell gears and the two speed, make sure the engine is in place so the flywheel doesn't hit the brake disk!!! The paper should not come out by pulling it, you should have to spin it out by oviously turning the clutch bell.
Hope this helps. You can e-mail me if you need more info.
Good luck
Race or play safe.

I've been running the red gears with 39 and 43 spur gears. I do the receipt paper wedging thingy, but the gears are not tight. I'm using a RBC12 with lower engine mounts and smaller flywheel. I think I just can't get the gears to mesh tight.

This morning I put back my stock engine mounts and flywheel. The mesh was tight, but it loosened up. The gears were slipping and then engaging when it loosened. I want to gear high, but it's just too frustrating. Maybe I should just stick to 41 and 45.
