howdy yall i am new here an new to tuning my s-maxx but can drive the wheels off anything:hehe: anyway i just got a s/maxx today an it seems to run pretty good other than it cuts out an dies on full throttle take off an a roll on full throttle i have tuned it to the best of my ability with out a heat gun so any help anyone could provide i would be very very grateful thank u in advance

You're probably still set too rich from the factory settings. You'll need to lean the LSN for a good take off, and the HSN for WOT.

man i am very thankful for u helpin but i have one complaint lol u have to put it in stupid people terms like the long screw an the really short screw but hey i am very grateful for u takin ur time an helpin me

o an i forgot what is the stock settings for the needels? i turn them all the way in then how far back out?

wow that first link really helped ALOT thank u now i can't wait for day light to come lol thank u very much for all ur help

I've simply relayed information that the good folks at this site gave to me several years ago when I was dealing with a similar situation.

well i got it to run half way decent an went to fast over a small berm by my house now i need a new spur gear my luck sucks

its not luck. its the nature of the hobby. bash, fix, repeat. if it aint broke you didnt drive it hard enough.

welcome to the madness!!

Make sure to pick up a couple spurs and at least one set of spare arms... you'll probably need them! Also maybe a couple spare glow plugs. FYI, the maxx uses the same arms on all 4 corners, so one full spare set is good to have (1 two pack of upper and 1 two pack of lower).

When you install your new spur gear, put a strip of paper between that gear and the clutch bell gear. Press the two and hold them together tightly while you tighten down the screws. Turn the gear to get the paper out, and you'll have a perfect mesh.

If you thinking that your not going to break something or strip a gear someone told you wrong. Get some extra parts fix it and do it all over again.

Now break me some parts dammit. :whhooo:

And i mean carnage.

Sorry about the short hand.
Now you know the LSN is the Low Speed Needle,
HSN is the High Speed Needle...That's the big one,
and WOT is Wide Open Throttle, or running flat out.

well i got my gear ordered along with some stuff for my bike :) an now am wandering is there any special set up i need to do to be able to do a jump? with time i would like to do alot bigger in air but for now wanna stay small but thats how i stripped my first gear was on a small jump an help?

Just remember your scale here. Your Truck is a 1/10th scale. That means whatever jump multiply by a factor of 10 to get the distance that a 1:1 truck would have jumped.

Most breakage on any rc is usually avoidable. The problem is, when your new to the hobby, your just not going to notice things like loose mesh or other problems until they cause a part to fail. For example, most people will ruin a diff when they start jumping hard because they were unaware of an overly tight slipper. This is perfectly common. And stock parts are usually cheap. Chalk it all up to getting some experience under your belt. In six months to a year, you'll be amazed at how much you've learned and how much more enjoyable your outings are. You'll know what to do to keep your rig off of the bench and in the bash.
