Awesome! That is a helluva difference. Wonder why they didn't redesign that bumper just a bit to make it open like that 🤔
It's not just that. The cargo box, in the back, actually lifts open. However, it only opens a little bit since it would hit the vertical rack on the roll bars. Which I have since removed.
I would have had to do the same thing, the limited opening would have driven me nuts....well if I weren't already nuts that is. 🤪
That would actually then raise you to a nutter.

Yeah, I would probably have ripped the cab off and made some mounts with magnets. I don't even like the flip top on the SCX24 that much. Every time you want to fiddle with something, you have to remove the screws in the hinge to get the body out of the way 🤬

I've come to really, really like the Atlas! It's such a crawling performer right out of the box, even better than the SCX24 Deadbolt. The weight distribution is just about perfect, so I won't be needing to mod any weight to it. If this thing came with a smoother, quieter ESC/motor, it would be perfect. As is, it's still a hidden gem!
I hope more people discover this rig and raise it's popularity, so, hopefully, manufacturers will produce stronger hop-up parts.
I'm such a fan of this thing, I had to get it's red colored sibling. I'm modding this one into more of a farm truck.....a rock crawling farm truck that is 😉

.....getting the red one and converting it to a wooden flat bed with wooden rails.
I'm not very good at crafting things, unlike many of you guys here, but I've been messing with popsicle sticks to turn the red Atlas into more of a farm truck. I constructed a wooden flatbed with rails and a wooden front bumper. I still need to polyurethane the bed and rails.

Those are some damn good looking popsicle sticks 🤣. Very nice work! I love the grey one.
Thanks, Man!
The first one is actually blue. Both the red and blue have this dull, faded look to them that's really, really cool!

Thanks!

It's there an easy method for making the wood look more distressed and weathered?
You can use watered down black ink, Ryt dye, or anything black that mixes with water.

You can also rub black or gray chaulk dust on it, or charcoal dust. When you get the look you want, cover it with matte clear.

I'll try the charcoal method on a popsicle stick first. Thanks!

OH OK. I've been looking at a lot grays lately and they sometimes carry through pictures as blue lol. I like it either way 🤣

I recently bought one of these for my dad and I wanted to order him some brass wheel weights. Were they the same as the SCX24? Do you have any other beginner upgrades you recommend? Any info is appreciated. :astronaut:

Not sure about the wheel weights , but the Atlas runs great straight out of the box. :thumbs-up:

I thought it was a shade of blue as well. In fact, I think @Xraycer is a bit off on his color assessment. If I pull that into Illustrator, it definitely has a little blue in it 😉

It does really well. I just want to hook him on modifying it. :) Gotta start them with something simple that should make a noticeable difference.
As @Doom! and I mentioned, this rig is a solid performer right out of the box. No need for even wheel weights. In fact, adding wheel weights will increase overall weight which could hinder crawling performance.
