I got my GT5 in today and the first thing I did was tear it apart to see if it needed any mods like the GT3b does. Two of the big mods for me on my GT3b is converting it to run off of LiPo and replacing the steering wheel bushing with a bearing to make it feel smoother. Well right off the rip I noticed that it's already set to run off of LiPo and the steering wheel already comes with a bearing instead of a bushing!
One positive thing I'll say about it is I like being able to hide my excitement by tucking the GT5 antenna between its legs so it's easier to transport. Well played Flysky!
It also comes with a foam wheel grip unlike the rubber one that comes on the GT3b.
One small criticism I have about the battery compartment, is that you should be able to remove the AA battery tray if you're going to run a LiPo instead of having to cram a LiPo into the AA battery tray in between the springs. They make LiPos that are the perfect size for that, but I'd prefer to have the extra room inside for a bigger LiPo. Overall, though, that is a minor complaint. The 1500mAh LiPo that fits in it is plenty big enough to last a good long while.
The GT5 comes with a small (installed by default) and large palm grip pads and a single receiver.
I also found a cool little replacement steering wheel for mine. The jury is out on whether I like the feel, but it looks pretty darn cool! The replacement wheel comes with the worlds smallest grub screws and hex wrench lol. (Posted a pic below of the wrench laying next to the G5 steering wheel for size comparison but I dont feel like the pic does it justice. The hex wrench isnt much bigger around than a thick needle.)
All in all, so far, I feel like Flysky took the GT3b fixed the things that people were modding it to fix, added more features, and redesigned the radio to give it a fresh new look! I havent used it yet but so far I feel like its a home run for $67.
