RC Driving Style
Hello all, I have never owned a Nitro RC before and have only had a electric Stampede... I am now looking for a Nitro and wanted to get some feedback. I like the stadium truck style and can only probably afford a 2WD since I am working with about $300.

Let me know what ya think. I want something that I can put some upgrades into in time.

Thanks!
Mike

Whatever you get make sure it either includes the support equipment or has it included.

You will need batteries for the receiver and transmitter, fuel, glow plugs, glow stick, and?? I'm sure I forgot something.

Thanks for the reply but that really doesn't help much on what to get ...lol

Anyway, I am looking at a RC10GT, what do you guys think?

Also, make certain your local hobby shop provides parts support for your new ride. Being without a spare parts supply is never fun when the damages start rolling in....

What is it that you don't believe? The fact that we are not telling you what to get or the fact that we are giving you sound advice and trying to not push you towards one RC or another?

The bottom line, is that for $300 you can get a decent ride of any variety, but the real issue in most cases is not the upfront cost...it is the support costs and the damages. So, if all you have is $300 you are probably going to have to do some serious thinking about what you want to get. Why? That is not much in the nitro world. It might buy you a decent ride out of the box, but after the first run...who knows what your cost would be.

I spent way more on my first RC after I already had it than the initial cost of buying it.

If you like the RC10GT, then get it.

Hmmmm bearings and body clips come to mind.....replacement servos.....the kind of stuff you sell ;)

Nah just having fun....you will have to "Choose" your own first RC. I might suggest staying in the Traxxas line as they have some great value priced set ups. And parts are plentiful.

Just bashing? Or do ya want to race?

Want to bash, try the XT2. http://www.hobbypeople.net/gallery/145625.asp. Got the first one and it is hard to beat for a basher. Not a lot of upgrades and mostly gonna have to order parts off the net. Bought the X-term for the kid, but it's the same way. http://www.hobbypeople.net/gallery/145610.asp
Just from watching the forum, think the MT2 would be a nice one to start out on. http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&P=SM&I=LXFSK5 Somebody correct me if I'm wrong. Not a lot of talk on them, but I haven't read anything really bad.

If you are wanting to race, the RC10GT. Even want to bash. Lots of ugrades.

And the guys are trying to steer you in the right direction. Get a nitro and you need support equipment to go with it. Just like ya did with the electric...

Good luck and let us know what ya get.

Check E-bay u can find stadium trucks within ur budget and get replacement parts as well. I've seen the RC10 there but I prefer the Losi XXX-NT I have 2 of them & they've alway's served me well. Yeah ur gonna break stuff but thats part of the fun. I've gone thru sev spur gears but that was my fault I didnt match the engine to the spur gear like I shd have. If ur looking to buy brand new then it's gonna cost u more than 300.00 once u get a few replacement parts.

Hey I'm in the same place as u i just sold my electric rustler. I'm getting my first nitro and every1 says to get the jato but its 2 fast i dont like 2 much speed. So I'm getin the rustler and every1 says its a good car.!!

After driving the nitro rustler and the rc10gt side by side, I would take the GT hands down. Although it may be a little slower, it seemed more durable, and definetily handled better than the rustler.

Ya but the rustler and handeling is easy to fix isnt it? Just get some new piggyback shocks!

how much slower is the rc10gt?

Not very much slower, if that. The RC10GT with the stock AE .15 in it scoots pretty quick. And it's perhaps the easiest platform to work on, since it's fairly openly laid out. I have one; it was my first nitro, and one of my favorites.

I will just continue suggesting that you make sure that whatever RC Car you get, that you make sure that you can get parts locally for it. It really sucks waiting for even a few days to get the part.

I've had a rusty, and i still have my rc10gt.. notice i STILL have it.. its a good platform. mine has many upgrades which makes it almost bulletproof (rpm all over) and a good sized engine (os .18) makes it zing like a rocket.

you may want to look into a used rig as with most of them, the previous owner has already replaced the fragile parts. but you may have to replace the engine sooner.

the stadum trucks are nice, and will teach you how to drive quick. (2wd makes it very squirly). but there not designed to be bashers. sure you can hop it up and make it tough, but there bred to race. not alot of ground clearance, and smaller in size.

you never did answer as to what you wanted to do with this rig, race, bash, both??

give us a bit more info as to what you want to do with it, how much your going to have for upgrades/repairs, and things like that.

these guys are tring there best to help you. replacement and support costs far outweigh the initial cost of the rig.

rear my title under my username, it speaks the truth...

How about the duratrax evader st? That is a pretty good car and it seems similar to the rc10gt! Is it?

No, they are not similar. The GT is a much better choice due to more parts available and way more aftermarket support. The duratrax RC line isn't very durable.

My first nitro R/C was the HPI Rush Evo 2wd stadium struck. Very cheaply made. I picked up a RC10GT (used ) later on then sold the Rush. The RC10 is fast, very durable and like everyone else says, tons of upgrades and support. Very easy to work on.

Like Beason says, they are very squirelly. Unless you are a real great driver, they are hard to drive at the track. Great for sandpits and general bashing though. Go 4WD if you plan on racing until you get real good. Otherwise you will probably be all over the track with a 2WD like me!

Check Craigslist too. There was a very nice REVO on my local for $200 bucks! Everything included. I missed it by an hour. SOLD. I bought my current project on Craigslist.
