The photographs were taken on May 23, 2011 by the Italian astronaut Paolo Nespoli who was on board of another spacecraft – the Russian Soyuz TMA-20 capsule -, which was leaving the International Space Station. Soyuz capsule (part of Expedition 27 mission) was separated by a 180 meter distance from the ISS-Endeavour pair when the snapshots were taken.
