Hey! Just picked up a lot from a friend who's done with RC. Ended up with a Revo 3.3 and Kyosho Buggy.
Neither are operational but the Revo is close. My wife is picking up some parts for me right now. Engine doesn't seem to be sucking fuel. I stripped out the carb body yesterday and will replace today Air filter was not stock and the tube was torn from being too close to the...sprocket thing? that too is getting replaced today.
The Kyosho is a mystery. No idea on model. Appear to out of prodeuction? Guy at local shop said parts will be hard to find. Only obvious issue right now is a bad receiver. TON of extra parts for that though. Someone must have raced this quite a bit.

ANY tips, spcific to my cars or general RC, are greatly appreciated. ANY tips! I'm brand spankin new to this.

*1 quick question: Pull start for the Revo? do it now? wait til I get it running? I've yet to see any reason not to put it on.

Thanks.
Mike

if the revo has a easy start on it now i would leave it on until you get it up and running and tuned in, pull starts just leave you with bloody knuckles and fustrated.

Thanks for moving this. I know "newbie" threads don't get a lot of attention.

I figured the smart thing would be getting this going first. Definitely like the idea of pull start. I own 2 Banshees so the physical act of turning the engine is my preference

Just rebuilt the carb and put a new, stock air filter. still wont turn over. Sounds good but never turn over. Any help?

The Kyosho has a lot of Carbon Fiber. Missing enough electrical that I havent had a chance to even try the motor. It came with a starter box thing that I'm not sure about either. came with enough stuff to completely rebuild....except for the part I need! Receiver.

Replaced fuel line, cleaned out tank. replaced glow plug. I'm thinking the glow plug wire may be bad? I think it gets hot though because I have seen steam? come from the plug area(assuming the flooded gas is getting hot).
I've taken apart and cleaned the carb. I've had it turn over twice in the past couple days. Never ran for more than a few seconds.

If You see smoke coming from the plug area, sounds like either the plug or the cooling head could be loose???......I would go back to factory settings on the carb and start over, If the Revo was put up for a long time and not ran, with or without fuel, if the engine had no after run oil put in then it could be gummed up in the carb.......just my thoughts from passed experience.

It sounds as though you might need a good tune and cleaning. Have you sealed the motor yet as airleaks are such a P.I.T.A. as far as tuning does. you could be chasing a nightmare forever

make sure your plug glows red buy taking it out and putting the starter wire on it and hold it on the cooling head and hit the starter it should glow red if not you need a wire or a plug.

What exactly does this mean? Do you mean it won't fire or won't turn over at all with the starter? If it won't crank over with the starer then clean the one way bearing. A seperate glow ignitor is always a good idea.

Carb is spanking clean. Carb body is brand new.
A buddy who had drove it a while back mentioned there may be an air leak.

The starter is working. the engine is not firing off. I'm going to test glow plu wire today.
I will check the one way bearing (just goitta figure out what that is!)

if he said there is an air leak you might wanna seal the engine and make sure the tank is still air tight aswell, and new lines are a good cheap replacement aswell.. and yes a seperate glow plug igniter will probly help because some times that blue wire wont get the plug hot enough for some reason... hope this helps out even alittle bit.. nice looking rigs though they were definetly kept clean!!

You have to take the starter off the back of the engine and the one way bearing is the bearing that is inside.

Be sure the one way bearing is facing the correct way, with the writing facing the engine. When you use the starter is it actually turning the engine? If so the one way brg is probably ok.

The owb should be cleaned with de-natured alcohol then lubed with some synthetic motor oil.

BOOM! Works! Found 3 missing bolts from the black, plastic sprocket. After engine, before tranny. Not sure if that was final straw.
But it's runnin.
Even got the Kyosho to fire off but it revved wide opem. Noticed more line connections so UI'll have to research where lines should go. I guess back pressure stuff?

Oh ya. What is "owb"?

Truck ran awesome for about half a tank. Then revved, going nowhere. I cut engine, heard spinning. The sprocket mentioned above, stripped out.
Does the engine move up/down to put 2 drive sprockets closer/teeth tighter together? It seemed to drive great but now the sprocket is all smoothed over. Seems like it should be metal on metal. Not metal on plastic.

Beautiful.

Anyone have info on the Kyosho I posted? Model? Need to figure out where all the hoses go. I guess breather hoses comming out of the engine?
