Hello all. I got my daughter a redcat ascent 18 last year, she's turning 14 this year and she has been lightly suggesting that she'd like a bigger crawler to keep up with me and her brother (him and I both have trx 4's) she really likes her ascent and has kept it stock as she's more of a trail person than a crawler. She does crawl with us and enjoys it alot, she found out that redcat makes her truck in a bigger scale and she thought it was the coolest thing however, I am wondering If that is a good starter truck and if it's a good bang per buck. I myself just started
rc-ing last year and bought a few cars/trucks but I still have alot to learn (which is why I'm asking the question)

Is the redcat ascent 1/10 a good gift for a 14 yo kid?

Anything I should be looking for in particular ?
Keep in mind she'll probably keep it stock for a long time and be perfectly happy with it.

Thanks in advance!

I do not have a Red Cat but I do have a TRX4. You can't go wrong with the TRX4 considering it has a huge aftermarket selection but its kinda up to the driver, You don't want her to get a trx4 and see that its different from the red cat. Red Cat can also be had at an affordable price. I was highly considering Everest Pro before I got the TRX4. Reason behind my decision was aftermarket for when something breaks, price, and build options. I do not rock crawl but more trail run/crawl.

I was thinking trx4 or 4 sport but the price of new is preventing me from going that route (4 kids single income family) I got my trx4 used, basically unused foe $250 and my sons 4sport for $200, I'd have yo ask if she didn't mind a used truck as a gift as I'm confident I could get one for a decent price!I can do the redcat new which would be nice as this would be a birthday gift

I understand, budget goes into ever purchase. I purchased mine new but its the sport. THere are many great options like the basecamp and deadbolt, red cat, element, trx4.

What kind of wheeling do you mainly do? rocks, trails, home course?

Mostly trails with rocky terrain, we do have a home crawler course we started last year and occasionally go to the rc store which has tons of courses, my trx4 is stock snd it has served me well for everything I do with it, if I upgrade something it would be a want at this point as haven't found something too technical that will make me upgrade, but then again I don't tend to go for the more technical stuff anyways.

In that case I think any rig you choose for her will be pretty good. I like my sport, it crawled up over some bushes I didnt expect the other day.

Look into the
Element Sendero at $275 on Amain
RedCat Acsent 1/10 is $290 on Amazon
Traxxas TRX4 Sport $329 at Amain (cheaper then I found at other places)
Axial Basecamp $319 at Amain

Redcat Danchee Ridgerunner $170 and comes with DIG already where you can lock the rear and drag the front around and 4 wheel steer? (Do your research I am quickly going over the desc. Link

i highly recomend the element ecto its a beast out of the box, but the ascent 1/10 is a badass machine too, either of them will be an awesome addition to the collection
