My car is finally running well, but it's slow on the take off. I have a teflon clutch, and it's on the setting which gives it the most punch off the line. Either it's worn or I'm way too lean or rich... (one or the other).

Runs pretty quick (close to peak) under full throttle...

ideas?

:buggy1:

EP pretty much hit this one on the head. Odds are, your teflon clutch is not grabbing as you might desire. Teflon is a slick material, not given to great amounts of friction. It might sound cool, but it is probably the reason you are not getting the punch off the line you desire.

Just out of curiousity, what did you mean by "it is on the setting which gives it the most punch off the line." What is this setting? Which part has the setting, the clutch, the engine, what?

Ya, your right ep but also the rich sibe could be possible thy re tuning it also get a temp gun.

Maybe a link to the lcutch owould help us understand

Here's how the clutch works: http://www.nitrorc.com/articles/clutch.html

The "setting" is the location of the pin (lever) inside the clutch bell housing. You can see the dots on those clutches. It's a swivel point and it will cause the clutch to "grab" at different RPM levels, so you can make the clutch engage later and get more of a jump off the line -- but that isn't working now.. :(

I dunno really.. I was just told they were good aftermarket clutches for the .15FE (HPI).

I'm pissed now, I thought that was the best clutch they made..

The stock clutch was some other material, cheaper, and wore out so I had to replace it with this. Maybe I should open it up and see if it is worn.. I bet it could be.

If you mount on the holes closer to the end, it will give you a heavier more grabby clutch. I have the 2 hole ones from MIP on my 21 maxx. I run on the holes closest to the end. With my new engine, it slips though. Can't quite handle 2.5hp. When I hit second, it does a backflip, or the clutch slips. It seems to be more grabby once it heats up.

I don't think it's the clutch.... It is bogging.

What can I do to prevent it from bogging when I hit it off the line??

Idle higher?? What if I my idle makes my car roll forward?? Tighter brakes?? Won't that wear the clutch though??

????

if it is making a bogging sound and not leaving the line hard then tuning is the reason your not getting the results you want. if the engine revs up loudly but the speed doesn't seem propertionate to the rpms gained, its the clutch. hmm.....this is the 15fe correct? i do not think it has an low speed needle on the carb? you can try to lean out the main needle untill you get good throttle responce but still have enough fuel at WOT so there is a nice smoke trail and the engine is accerating/holding rpm nice and smooth.

Have any of you tried any of those clutch tuning tips? I think I'm going to drill a whole or two in my clutch this weekend. Thanks for the article sidogg!

It sounds good, but it's def. going slow. My carb has ONLY one needle, no extra low-speed needle.. *sigh*

I should get a new carb.. tuning would be so much easier. :)
