I've been on RCNT for HOURS today. For the last few months I was getting locked up constantly, had to shut down the site, and wait endlessly for it to reopen. Clicking a topic or hitting the back button was always a 30 to 40 second wait, and I got sick of seeing "Page can not be displayed."
Today it's been flawless and lightning fast....pure pleasure.
It's not the fault of this site, but Comcast Cable. I would watch the lights on the modem resetting constantly, which told me I had lost my cable signal.
Congratulations, Comcast......One good day out of the last 120.

LMFAO,
The site was down for 8 hours!
Your connection must have been real slow for this to be the fastest you have been able to surf the site.

So instead of it taking 14 hours to to change a page it only takes 8?
Thats like a 40% increase in speed.
Grats!

When I first tried to get on the site today, I got the window that said it was down for maintenance. After reading the local paper for 20 minutes, the site was up and running. I had no idea it was down that long.
My connection today has been as fast as a cable modem. (that's what I've been paying for, but it's been running like a dial up)

I'm afraid to get off. I know it's a fluke. I'll never get this fast of a connection ever again.
Maybe I should just leave this computer connected to RCNT and use the other ones for Email and surfing.

Man that bites Rolex. I don;t know if you know much about cable or computers, but a lot of times water seeps into the lines causing corrosion or a bad connection. Also sometimes a cheap cable cord connections or splitters can cause signal loss.

I would get a ladder and check the connection at the house, the outside box, and all your inside wiring. If you can connect to cable at all it should be fast unless your physical connection is bad.

Heh my dial up would only connect at 24.4 the old occupants said it was bcause the old phone lines in the country. I ran a new wire form the box, and 53.333 every time..you probably know all this anywasys, but if you don't it's a killer quick fix ;)

You might have a point. It's been a couple of years since I ran all new cable and waterproofed my connections. I also use Cramolin (for A/V connections) on all my jacks.
Well, if RCNT went out for another 8 hours, I'd have time to re-do them.
I should have thought about bad connections, since my phones went out for several days last week due to heavy rain in the area. It wasn't at the house, though, but somewhere out on their lines.

rolex. first try unpluging your modem from power, not just pressing the button. leave it disconnected for 1-2 minutes. then reconnect it.

after that, try the test on this site. http://nyc.speakeasy.net/ if its slower than it should be, they have tools and tips on how to make it perform better.

hope that helps. it worked for me, and i use comcast as well. lately I've been downloading at over 400k/sec.

just did the test again myself for reference for you. i hit 3033kbps

2038 / 487

That was mine, I have COX High Speed Internet, I am thinking that I should be running faster. Anyone agree? Thanks.

hmmmmm, I use earthlink but it's going through timewarner's roadrunner system and got

2004-11-18 18:33:31 EST: 2532 / 362
Your download speed : 2592909 bps, or 2532 kbps.
A 316.5 KB/sec transfer rate.
Your upload speed : 371574 bps, or 362 kbps.

I was having trouble yesterday too. Now when i hit the back button sometimes it gets messed up, then i have to go to favorites and bring it back up.

rolex i have charter cable internet and i know from experiance that every spliter degrades your connection till you have none...my in laws had a spiders nest of cable and spliters in the basement ( yes westeners we have a whole house under or house in the east ) run a cable from the first spliter attached to the line coming in your house to your modem probily will solve your problem
if not call and complain.... comon were americans were good at that :)

1370/237
It also seems good today.........so far, but it's slower than what you guys are getting.
I wired the house, and where the connection is on the corner, that's the first place to connect, and that runs directly to the modem. All the splitters for the TVs and the other computers are after that.

try thier tests&tools link on the left side of the page after you get your results. it may help your performance. lots of computers need tweeking to perform at thier fullest with broadband. about 15mos ago when i got mine, my speeds were down around 1800 till i did some tweeking.
