ESC Question

The problem with a lot of regular ESC's is that they have a reverse delay, and when you push the trigger it applys the brakes but doesn't go directly into reverse, which is bad for crawling. The moped ESC's are really cheap and a lot of guys are using them in crawlers. I haven't run one so I can't tell you exactly how they run. Another nice ESC that's cheap is the mamba 25 if you can find one used. Also, if you can run across a nice used sidewinder, they've been going for around $40 used on the forums and it's one of the best esc's on the market for crawling.

Whatever you get, you want to make sure that it will go into reverse as soon as you push the trigger forward, with no delay. Another ESC that's super cheap and I've seen guys use is the Dynamite Tazer. I don't know if it has reverse delay, but it goes for around $15.

What motor are you going to be running with this ESC? A high turn lathe motor?

I know you're on a budget, and you can get some nice ESC's for a decent price, but this is one piece of the crawler that I think it's most important to spend a little money and buy a quality ESC.

The Castle Creations mamba 25 can be picked up used for super cheap, and same with the sidewinders if you find a good deal. If you want, I can help you find a mamba 25 ESC for a good deal, probably not much more than some of those that you linked to.

having gone through two esc's before my sidewinder i totally agree now with spending alittle extra and getting something nice....i love this sidewinder...wouldnt want any thing else as of now.

If you want a cheap esc that will take a lot of abuse the moped esc would be a good choice IMO. I have been punishing mine for a while now and it's still kickin!

I haven't run one so I can't tell you exactly how they run.

You ran one when you drove my wheely king :D

Ahh, the wheely king. When I got done driving Smaxxin's wheely king, I was absolutely hooked. I tried to trade him for my 5B SS but he wouldn't take the deal. Anywho, now that I know that was a moped ESC, along with the fact that Pete likes it, I feel more confortable reccomending it. They've been selling really cheap on some of the crawler forums.

I use a Sidewinder in my AX-10 and after the first hour and a bit I can see why folks love em so much, but if you get one then go the extra mile and get a Castle Link cable, it's well worth it.

thanks for all the great responses. Any suggestions on reasonable motors? I know I am asking alot... but would love to get my crawler going for sure.

AvANT....

Well you haven't told us what kind of crawler it is. If you're looking for an inexpensive motor, I reccomend the Novak 55 turn.

If you're wanting to get one of the best motors on the market that is still pretty inexpensive for the quality, then go with a holmes hobbies handwound 540. I like the 35 turns, in fact I liked mine so much I bought a second one just in case I wanted to use it in one of my other crawlers.

The Holmes Hobbies motors are buy far the best in the industry, and I sell the Novak so I have no reason to lie to you lol.
