Yes, you get blisters. May want to find some thin gloves or wrap a couple pieces of surgical tape around those areas of your fingers if you want to try to stop them.
I don't know why but have never gotten a blister from pullstarters. I've my share of stubborn engines but I've never had a blister because of them...:shrug:

I pull start my HPI K4.6 a .28 all the time, no probs...also done a XTM 24.7, HPI S-25...my Wasp .28 probably would have left some blisters, that thing has soooo high compression. Its on roto start now though.

If you prime it and tune it correctly, a pull-start should crank up in no more than 3-10 pulls. If it doesn't you're doing something wrong. (No blisters so far. )
