If memory serves, the rustler uses the short crankshaft, but requires a rotary carb. Unless it's the TRX2.5 rustler.... then, it might be a direct drop-in. Is your carburator a slide or rotatory?

Otherwise, the mounting is pretty much the same. You'll need a pullstart version, unless you plan to use a starterbox or bump-wheel.

I think you will need a clutch adapter nut and you may have to cut the crankshaft to get it to fit properly.

It's just a question of the crank-shaft. I don't remember if the rustler is like the GT (needs a short shaft, because all the clutch pretty much rides on the nut). The best way to tell is to take the clutchbell off your rustler, and see what it looks like in there. If you have a decent camera, maybe take a picture and post it here.

hes also gonna need a side exhause header since the 2.5 is rear exhaust.

That all depends. You'll have to take the clutch bell off to see what type of shaft your existing engine has.

.21GT; mine has the short shaft with the wierd little adapter nut. Ultimately, I don't see why he couldn't use a GT clutch nut with that engine.... Course, I don't own a rustler, so I can't say one way or the other. (going on exploded diagrams on the web)

That engine would work; we're just debating the clutch part. What you could do is call Tower Hobbies, and they'd tell you exactly what you'd need to put that in a Rustler.

I think the OS 18 TM would drop right in though. It was made for the t-maxx 2.5. It has a slide carb, pilot shaft and rear exhaust. Except, I don't know if the header will fit it's exhaust port either.

If he got the old TRX.15 header for the older rustler, that'd work. It'd have the same curve and would be for the side-exhaust engine.

True, the 2.5 rustler uses the round port of the trx 2.5. He'd need a side-exhaust header to make it fit. The older rustler header has the square side-exhaust port, and the neccessary curve to wrap around to meet the pipe.

I don't think you have to cut the shaft on that one. Even if you do, it's really easy, you can grind it off, or take a dremel to it. As far as the clutch bell, it'll work along with the flywheel, and everything else EXCLUDING the header.
