I'm getting a 4 shoe clutch tommorrow so hopefully that will solve the problem

well i got the 4-shoe today and have a new problem, the car "studders" when i open the gas quickly. i have it set to leading edge because the instructions said to do that. is the clutch engaging to quickly and solidly?

maybe it will wear off after a little while. it might not but the clutch shoes are new and maybe they have to be ran a little. if i was u i would go and run my truck a few more times and then after that if it still does it then there is something that needs to be tweaked with.

you were right, its been broken in a works fine. now I'm back to the old problem, the shoes are already wearing down and will probably break before long.

Did you try a lighter vented flywheel?

And go to trailing edge - leading edge is much rougher on clutch shoes.

no, i can't find a 4-shoe flywheel besides the one made by rad rc. i changed to trailing edge and its just as bad, its wierd the first thing that goes is the spring. it just keeps stretching it and stretching until it breaks.

no, i dont think so. after i broke the shoes in the fit was tight between the shoes and the bell. tighter than normal, is their a way to get metal shoes for a 4-shoe clutch? should i just upgrade to a 1/8 scale clutch?

i asked my lhs today and they told me to loosen the slipper clutch a little, i will try that before i get a 1/8 clutch

i totally forgot about that  ! o well try that and if that dont work then go and get the 1/8 clutch set up. but i think that they loosining will work fine tho.

bryan

nope, tried it today and its still burning it, oh well where can i order a 1/8 set up

not for sure, i have been having the same probs that u are having. i just bought new clutch shoes last night and ran it for 3 mins and they were toasted.

the reason you guys are killing clutches is easy. I had the same problem like 2 years ago when I first went .21. The cute tiny maxx clutch is just too small to hold the power. heck the maxx clutch can barley hold he power of the sirio .18! You may not think its slipping but with a powerfull big block a stock maxx clutch slips almost constantly.

Go to Strobe-rc.com. order up their slipper and your choice of spur gears. Then get an 1/8 scale clutch and flywheel, 16t 1/8 scale clutchbell for stock diffs or 18t for 1/8 diffs and your gravy. I've run the ofna 3 shoe clutch, and various mp7.5 clutches on my maxx. it gets the power down 100 times better and you also have better top speed and long lasting clutches becaue the clutch doens't slip like mad and burn up.

Part #'s for this stuff is listed on strobe-rc.com. The slipper is $35, plastic spur gear $8 or steel spur gear for $26, Ue 4 shoe clutch $34, and an 1/8 scale clutchebell $20. It will run close to $100 for it all but its worth it because I've been using the same clutch on my maxx for a year now and the clutch enguagement is incredible. If you think you maxx wheelies with the stock clutch... you ain't seen nothing yet.

I'd only run a plastic spur gear if you are running an SM chassis because most all other chassis flex like crazy with a bigblock. Also running plastic spur gears means the clutchbell will last forever. I run a plastic spur on mine normally and have the steel one for backup. I've only striped 2 plastic spurs on my SM chassis maxx only because the motor mount screws came loose.

gearing.. the 1/8 scale stuff is a different pitch than the stock t-maxx gears. I'm running UE diffs which have a different ratio than stock diffs. So I'm geared 18/51 which is close to a 23/65 gearing using stock maxx pitch gears. If you are running stock diffs I'd go with a 16t/51 which is close to 22/72 on a stock maxx.

here is an old pic of my setup running an mp7.5 flywheel, clutch, clutchbell, with the steel spur gear.
