Buy an O.S. for it. The HPI small blocks are horrible. I honestly would not waste another ounce of fuel on that engine. 100 bucks will buy a much more user friendly engine, not to mention a lot more powerful.
The engine running hot could be to numerous things. Worn clutch, drivetrain drag or binding, worn engine bearings, incorrect fuel and or glow plug or maybe an air leak.
The most noticeable trait of an air leak is air bubbles in the fuel line and or very hard to prime the engine all the time.

clutch...i had it checked when i bort it second hand
drivetrain...it freewheels fine
binding...??? dont know what this is
engine berings... maby but dosent seem hard to pull from a mates one whitch is fine
inccorect fuel... i use biron and tried outhers too
glow plug...gone through all the ones the hs reccomends for the engine
air leak can be the only thing i can think of but...
priming... i have a plunger but sometimes esetuly when engine is warmer or opening small gaps up i get fuel into carb but always hard to start but in cold weather easer to start
air bubbles... havent noticed any but dont look so wont know

hope this helps:)

thanks
