It really depends on 2 things.

First: Does the ESC have a Low Voltage Cutoff (LVC) to protect the LiPos?
Second: Make sure that the voltage doesn't exceed the capability of the ESC and motor.

I am not sure on the motor as I was just told it is a dewalt motor and the esc is a castle 1/10th scale mamba max pro...

there will be a code on the side stamped on with six numbers -, then two more, maybe a couple of letters.
Most probably 14.4V. The most common code is 396505-21 for the 14.4V, Theres about 8 different motors for that voltage.

The ESC is LiPo capable, you just need to enable it using either the Castle Link or the field programming card.

Yeah, it is a 396505-21 2011 32 49 motor.... this mean it is not capable of lipo batteries.. ??

The guy I bought it from said he will mail me the programmer thing for the esc...

yes thats 14.4V, it'll happily run 4s lipo and even 5s, but the 5s would burn up the brushes faster, Makes it crazy fun. Brushes are a few dollars about $3 from ebay.

4s is 14.8v and that should be about the limit for that motor and long life.

Thanks for the replies!!

I am curious because I am getting about 15 minutes runtime with this on 3000mah nimh are lipos are going to help with this.... ? The first 5 minutes this emaxx it is a brute, second 5minutes it is mild, and the third 5 minutes it just goes down hill... which sucks.

Will lipos make this truck not suck or do I have weak batteries i wonder. I do not know what to expect buying a used electric truck with no experience.

Lipos and charger probably cost me $200 or maybe I should get some better nimh batteries ... or brushless revo...

Lipo battery's will definatly help. Unlike nimh's, lipo battery's will discharge at full power until the very end.

Sent from my XT907

I have been tring to do some research on batteries and it seems like turnigy nano and gensacearespammers are probably top contenders with lipos. What kind of batteries would be recommended for this... thanks

I wonder if maybe I should just buy a brushless 2200kv motor and then some 11.1 lipos... i want a badazz truck.

I had the nano's, very good in low capacity, average when you get up in the capacity ratings, now I just use the zippy's over 2 years on same pair. But i think for my next set i'll be trying the A-spec nano's.
gensacearespammers are common as is SPC lipo's,
Between the 4 brands and from peoples reviews SPC seem the best. But then again you can't mention turnigy or any hobbyking brand on the traxxas site so they don't get any reviews.

Thanks for the help these 5000mah 2s lipos are much much better than the Nimh batteries I was using.

Is it possible for me to get the 3s packs and then limit the power through castle link program and be ok with this dewalt motor.. ??

No. They would still output the full 11.1 volts to the motor. The voltage can only be regulated to the RX/servos.

the max you'd want to go with the 14.4V is 5s, I've seen on a forum someone ran 6s with the 14.4V motor, but they only posted once, so I think they broke it.
The 12V motor is crazy with 4s, there was a load of videos on youtube with the 12V summits.

Well for some reason my ESC quit working so I got the Castle Creations 2 ESC and a pair of 11.1 lipos to run 5s with the 7.4 lipos and have an extra set. The truck is a torque monster and has a decent top speed of maybe 30-35mph. I hooked a bungee cord to my Emaxx and one of my nephews pedal tractors and was pulling him around with no problems other than him paying attention to steering the tractor. I have never ran a mamba brushless 2200kv motors but they supposed to have 60,000 rpm's and 7 hP but would it have the torque of this dewalt? I guess the advantage the dewalt has is it is cheap and durable? Would it be worth it to keep the dewalt as a back up and get a mamba monster 2200kv brushless motor.
