clutch shoes, should they be trailing or forward? i'm getting two different answers to the question.

depends on what you want....trailing gives you smoother transition and longer wear... forward gives you greater BITE and shorter wear

i honestly didn't know that you could put them on backwards. on the .21 clutches I have worked with, the shoes point in a clockwise direction if you're looking directly at the drive shaft.

EDITED by Rob: whoops don't wanna give mis-information.

I have a 2 shoe setup and its set to trailing edge. (i have mine pointing clockwise ... if you have the driveshaft pointing directly at you with no bell)

Do you have a 2-shoe or 3-shoe setup Rob??

3-shoe setup on both my Lightning Pro and my son's ofna buggy. in both cases, the shoes point clockwise. thinking about it, the engine would spin counter clockwise (if you're looking at drive shaft). i guess flipping the shoes to point the otherway (counterclockwise, with the rotation of the engine) would produce the bite you're talkign about?

i had a 1/10 scale clutch apart once, but I can't remember what it looks like in there.

When I tried flipping my shoes around I found that it would act funny....I went with a little harder spring and it would rev up a little more before it grabbed but when it did...it grabbed HARD.

mine's a 3 shoe ofna setup, .26 power. i've heard that it may be easier for breakin to set them up trailing. i've also heard that placing them in the forward possition will give them a lot of bite out of the hole. i'm hoping that you guys have had more hands on experience than some of my sources.

I'd say that 99% of the time you'd want trailing edge. Makes power delivery alot smoother, and easier on the shoes.
