Another option is running the RC day during the middle of the week when there is little/no racing going on. Maybe hit up Dirtburners and ask if we can rent the track out for one day.

The days is something we definately need to work out. The days depend heavily on the location. Dom, I'm not seeing much of any discussion of another location. Do you think we should just nail this and move on to dates?

This location is a public park so I don't think we can just rent it to ourselves. I imagine there is a good chance that there will be other people there bashing when we are there as well.

The only issues I have with having rigs shipped to me are how to haul them. When we travel my wife packs everything but kitchen sink. Right now we have a Grand Caravan, but with only 3 of us I could ditch the rear seat and it shouldn't be a problem. On the other hand we have been thinking of downsizing vehicles. If there's anyway I can, of course I'll do it!

So are we pretty much set on St Louis?

Ok, thanks Randy! We can work out the details of this later one. Maybe a few of us who are driving can accept a rig or two and split it up some. I highly doubt I'll have much room though. I'll probably have (4) 1:10/1:8 and (1) 1:18, plus support, luggage, 2 kids, wife... in a CR-V.

for those of us that need to get time off work to travel, the middle of the week doesn't sound like a good idea. I plan on leaving say, thursday night and getting there somtime friday. then taking monday off for travel on sunday-monday. according to google, I have a 19 hour and 5 minute drive to make.

maybe we can call up the track and reserve it for the weekend. were there any campgrounds near the track? after paying for that much fuel and food, I'm not sure i wanna buck up for a hotel too.

I can understand the need to schedule it so that the folks who are not using this as a "vacation: need to take as little time off of work as possible. Unfortunately, with the club racing that goes on during the weekend that makes it more difficult, but let's see what we can put together. I'll see what I can dig up as far as campgrounds..

Looks like a couple options here..

My opinion is that Saturday is out because Dirtburners run their organized racing and I don't know about you guys but I'd much prefer to just kick back and relax when we all get together. I also think that this should be a 2 day event minimum. Many of us are planning some serious travel so we should make it worth it ya know... Of course that doesn't mean that everybody needs to stick around for both days if you need to get back to work.

What do you guys think about Sun/Mon.? That way Saturday is a travel day and Tuesday can be a travel day. Those working M-F still only need to take off 2 days to come to a 2-day event.

Also, What do you guys think about actually meeting for dinner Saturday evening.. a later dinner? Maybe somewhere laid back where we can have a nice meal, kick back a couple drinks after a long drive and just get to know each other at the table.

Sunday and Monday sounds good. With the track on a week day, it's more likely that we can bash together. Food allways sounds good. Also, I'd be willing to haul a few rigs if needed. Are we going to be doing any on road bashing? I'm sure, I'll bring my TT01 and find a parking lot if nothing else. Thanks to all working to make this thing happen!

Well, if we do want to do any parking lot bashing it absolutely cannot be at the park. We'd have to find another location. We'll get kicked out if we run our rigs anywhere outside of the fenced in area around the track. I wouldn't mind a little onroad myself, I could bring my new motorcycle :) My guess though is that off-road is the prominent class for this get together. RCNT has always been more of an off-road forum in general so that's what our members tend to have more of.

A Saturday social followed by a little bashing Sunday and Monday sounds ideal. That way those that can only take a day or two off can still have a little fun and those whom are bringing family for a vacation can have plenty of family time too.

Sounds like a win-win thus far!

Lessen: You are doing a great job as Bash Director!!!

I'm all for the Saturday night meet and greet dinner at a relaxed restaurant. Also, I agree that a Sun + Mon event sounds like the most ideal option. I'll be taking the whole week off, so Tues-Thurs will be spent checking out the rest of St. Louis.

Josh, I agree St. Louis is the right location, since we haven’t heard any objections nor new ideas for locations in the last week. I say we proceed with working out the date.

Alrighty then, St. Louis it is.

I think Sunday/Monday is the obvious choice of days for multiple reasons so lets go with that.

Now the tough part... dates. Assuming I don't have any vacation issues at work I should be free any week in the time frame we're looking at. My wife mentioned kids going back to school in Sept. Is school going to be an issue for anybody? Temps will be milder in Sept most likely.

Let's try to nail down two different sets of dates then I can contact Dirtburners and attempt to verify that they won't be holding any special events or doing any major track maintenance during those days.

Should we do a poll for this?

I would think we need to do it before Labor Day weekend which is Sept 4th throught the 7th. I would think the latter part of August would be better than July as far as temperatures go. The weekend of the 15th or 22nd?

A Sun-Mon sounds good to me. Definately not wanting to be there on a race day. Dinner Sat night also sounds good and I wouldn't object to my son missing a day of school, so everything so far sounds good to me.

Just because it's in a public park shouldn't mean the track can't be reserved/rented. All of the public parks here require reservations if you want to use the covered picnic areas. You should at least ask about it. If there's only 4-5 of us it may not be worth it but if more can make it, maybe it would.

Understood. However, I also realize that many times when a club get's permission to build a track in a public park that the park system requires it to be open to the public when the club isn't utilizing it. This may be something I need to take up with park officials. Anyways, it doesn't hurt to ask. :)

yeah, Labor Day weekend is a big no-no for me anyways. My wife CANNOT be away from work that weekend at all. These are date options:

August:

2nd-3rd
9th-10th
16th-17th
23rd-24th
30th-31st

Sept:
13th-14th
20th-21st
27th-28th

From what I'm hearing so far the beginning through mid-August seems to be most popular.

September is when school starts--usually right after Labor day. It seems the most interest was in August being a good time. Wanna throw up a poll on it? I have zero idea how and besides, you are our leader!

Me, I vote for the 16th or 23rd--with our dinner the 15th or 22nd...

The Zoo and Six Flags are definitely on the list of places to go with the family. I'd also like to see if we can squeeze in a night out at the casinos... IF we do make St Louis the city.

The St Louis zoo is very cool, I've been there a number of times. Also if you guys want I can get discount tickets for Six Flags I do believe, so if you guys want some for the family or yourself then let me know and I'm sure I can get some together at a pretty decent price.

I know just the place for a nice dinner....Fast Eddies Bonair in Alton, IL. A stones throw from the track. Cheapest beer around, 25 cent hot wings, 1.50 Fast Eddie burgers (HUGE), and a great atmosphere....Only downer is the fact that this is a 21+ eatery. Otherwise I suggest Suewallers. They have amazing food for cheap too.

If anyone is serious, you can ship me the rigs and I'll personally guarentee their safety and well being. I have a 20 foot enclosed trailer and a 1 ton Ford with a bed cap.

And seeing as how I'm now O.S.E.C, I'll play tour guide as well. Anything I can do to help, don't hesitate to PM me. See you all there!

Thanks for the tips on dinner. We'll see if anybody needs to ship their rigs locally.

oh, sorry to steal your thunder, but Racer was actually referring to me with the O.S.E.C. thing. There's a bit of history behind it that goes back even before my time here.

No, you guys got it all out of whack.
