What is the actual difference between 16GA OFC speaker wire and regular 16GA OFC wire? I have a HobbyWing 1040 brushed ESC that someone cut the wires, and, I have nearly 100 FT of 16GA OFC speaker wire, but, a Google search says that speaker wire isn't the same as regular wire, but, not why, just that I shouldn't use the speaker wire for the ESC.

I mean wire is wire. You can and should be able to use it weather or not RC or audio.
Thing is main difference is the insulation. Speaker wire is thick and clear. Normal insulation is quite flexible. Speaker wire usually has thicker less strands of wire. Normal wire strands are thinner and more.

Normal wire can handle more heat and amps

My grandpa used 18 gauge speaker wire to wire up his train track setup. Tbf that was low voltage and current. At that point wire doesn't care so it mostly comes down to what you're running with it, loads it'll see and how much length and where you're running the wire.

as long as the speaker wire isn't copper clad aluminum, potentially maybe the gauge of each strand the wire is made up of. as well as the weave or winding of the copper. different gauge strands and different windings can cause different voltage/amperage handling and wire flexibility characteristics.
there's also different types of insulation. that could potentially be different as well.

16ga speaker wire will have thinner strands of copper compared to 16ga automotive wire. That’s why speaker wire is so flexible.
