i have never owned a gas car before but I'm am very close to buying one so can anybody here tell me what the difference is between a glow plug and glow igniter o

the glow plug is what makes the motor run much like a spark plug. the ignighter is what pre-heats the glow plug so you can crank the motor.

I wouldn't say pre-heat

so the igniter isnt really manditory?

You definitely need one to start a motor. The igniter heats up the glow plug until the motor is running.

The glow plug is "like" a sparkplug, but works in a different manner. Where a sparkplug has wiring to ignite it on the proper stroke, a glow plug is basically designed to remain hot so that it can ignite the gas when it compresses. A glow ignitor is a battery that you place on the glowplug to energize it and get it glowing hot. That way when you turn over the engine there is heat in the plug to ignite the gas. After the engine is running the heat of combustion in turn keeps the plug hot so you can remove the glow ignitor.

Here's a standard Nitro R/C glowplug...

thanks for all the help by the way I'm getting an HPI rtr rs4 3 nitro whats your opinion of the rs4 3 ?

HPI makes a good sturdy car that can take a good amount of bashing.
The Team associated TC3 is also a good car which I believe is a better handeling car, but not as sound as the HPI..
Good luck.
