Yes, another clueless newbie here :)

Ok, I just got my first nitro truck (Maximum MT) and I CAN NOT get this thing started. I got this cheap truck so I can slowly build up into something more expensive once I know what I'm doing, but this thing will not start no matter what I do.

My hands are actually blistered from pulling on the pull start so much.

I've search through many many message boards and have tried all of the things mentioned, (checked the glow plug, made sure I didn't flood it), but nothing works no matter what I do.

Any help is very much appreciated

I have the DuraTrax Maximum MT w/TORQ .16 Prebuilt

It says to have the "High-Speed" needle to be set @ 2-3/4 turns out from fully closed (if that's what you are talking about)

Is there anything else I have to do besides put in the servos/battery pack? Cause that's all I did

If you know your glo plug is good, what about your glo ignitor?

does it "pop" at all when trying to start it?

You may need to lean your needles a little to get it started and then once started and the excess fuel is burned off, fatten it back up

I have a rechargable glo ignitor and it (was) fully charged.

I tried leaning it out but it still doesn't start. I don't have a clue why

BTW: It did start once for about 3 seconds but I have yet to get it started again

Hey Dawson I just looked at the manula for that engine and all it says it the hs setting and then talks about how to lean out the ls . Ok here is what to do start off and set the hs neddle to 2-3/4 turns out and then set the ls needle flush with the nut that it sits in. Now start pulling with your other hand so you can have matching blisters. Bye the way this goes away in time and you get cool looking caluoses. with the needles set there. Pull off the presure line and blow in it dont get a drink though. This will push fuel up to the carb. Once you have done that pull on the starter about 5 times you can also try bumping the throttle or holding it open on the next five. pulls if nothing happens. Lean the hs neddle a 1/16 of a turn then same thing 5 or 6 pulls then try with throttle open repeat leaning out the hs between each go round. X Also are you sure that your glow ignighter is hot. Does it have a meter on it? X

if your ignighter does not have have a meter then take a glow plug and carfully hold against ignighter and see if the element gets bright orange and hot. X

There are only 3 things a glo engine needs to run.... fuel, air and a spark

How are you priming it?

Just to make sure it's not flooded, take your go plug out and turn the truck over and yank the pull starter over a few times to see if any fuel comes out of the engine

while you have your glo plug out. check it with your glo igniter to make sure you haven't fouled a plug

take your air filter off and look down the carb, the throttle body or barrel should be open about 1 mm, this will allow the engine to idle once the truck is running

First, I want to thank you guys for helping me out

It does have a low speed setting also

I have 2 brand new glow plugs and have checked them both and they both glow fine

Glad to help Dawson, that's what this place is for

We were all noobs once and I still learn new stuff all the time

Let us know if anything we suggested helps ya, if you have anymore questions, don't hesitate to ask

Just thought of something you may want to try. Choke it. Sometimes my RS4 wants to give me grief starting, when it does all I have to do is choke it by putting my finger over the carb opening, and pulling the pull start until it acts like it wants to start, the pull cord will feel easier to pull, just a few pulls usually, then pull my finger away and pull again and ahhhhhh the smell of burning nitro. This may help you get it started. Do NOT run it with no a/f though after doing this. Avoid choking it putting the filter back on or this will stall the engine. Let us know how you make out.

Man this is proff that if you take things out of context like the media does you can make stuff sound totaly diffrent. Thanks for being my ginni pig NC X

What the hell are you talking about X? He asked for help starting his truck, I told him to try choking it. How is that out of context? :wtf: BTW learn to spell if your gonna bust balls.

Nothin you said was out of context I took your thread out of context it had nothing to do with what you said. IT was a joke evidently it wasn't understood. X

Ok, not sure what you meant but its cool, guess I missed the joke. But Choking really does help. I was a small engine mechanic for many years and you would have blisters on top of blisters trying to pull start them without choking them, especially when the temps get colder.

Well, got it running for about 2 seconds this go around and I keep removing the glow plug after each try to drain all of the fuel and then I try again and it feels like it wants to start, but still a no go.

I've tried everything that has been suggested and everything seems to be set ok, but I have to wait till tomorrow to try it again because my glow starter died so I have to charge it up.

Everything is new, fuel, glow starter/plug, truck, everything, so I don't know why it's giving me problems, but hopefully I can get it going tomorrow

I'll let ya know tomorrow (or later today if the glow plug gets charged enough)

D if you are having to pour out fuel after everytime you pull on it. Then you are flooding it from the sounds of it. You may need to bring in the ls needle in a bit. try turning it in a 16/th or so. and pull some more. you may need to try they a couple times. X

Not flooding it at all actually. I push the primer once and then pull on the recoil and it sounds like it wants to start. BUT, if I pull it again, it just doesn't sound like anything and is actually harder to pull after the first try, so that's why I make sure all the fuel is out

i have to give my engine a little throttle to get it started, maybe try that. other than that i can't think of nothing else.
