Well I bought this 1/16th scale truggy in december, never had it running :@

For ages it just would not start, and trust me, I tried everything.

Today I thought I would try again and hurray it started (after pulling on the started chord for like 20 minutes ha)

However as soon as I removed the glow started it died. So I thought I would let it heat up a bit then remove the starter. However I was running late for something and had to go out.

When I got back I tried to carry on with the car but my starter randomly fell to pieces. Got that fixed and my pull start chord snapped. Fixed that and the metal coil in the pull start snapped. Fixed that and now the car sounds like it so nearly about to start but wont, occasionally it will start for about half a second then die.

The car did not come with factory needle settings (it an NB16-t)

If anyone helps me get going I will be so thankful!

Thanks!

You need a glow plug....maybe get a couple so you have spares. I wouldn't mess with the needles til you get it going and warmed up. Make sure you have fresh fuel too.

I have two glow plugs and both show same symtoms =[

It will still start as long as the plug works and the ignitor is charged. You're dealing with a tuning problem.

Any ideas if I'm too lean or rich? Or is it an idle thing?

Also when trying to start it how much throttle?

Thanks

With the engine off, the air cleaner off, and the radio and receiver on, turn the throttle trim on the radio all the way down, then hold the trigger in the full brake position. Look at the inside of the carb and adjust your idle screw till you have 1 or 2mm of an opening.
Don't give it throttle when starting, you're probably flooding it. Just raise the throttle trim. When it starts, start to back off the trim and adjust the idle so it stays running with the engine warm and the trim off.
After that, it will be tuning.

Thanks, however after trying this I have no luck so far

After about 10 pulls I smell burnt fuel an it sounds soo close. I'll try again after my pulling arm has recovered

Find your low speed needle and turn it in just a hair. If it's close to starting then that should do it.

Or you aren't getting it primed good enough.

Definately priming it enough. Tried turning in the LSN and first pull, the chord snapped again.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh I'm going to cry :'(

Heat the engine up with a hairdryer and try cracking the glow plug loose a half a turn or so. This will relieve some of the pinch and compression and make it easier to pull. As soon as it starts tighten the glow plug.

aparently most cars are about 2-3 turns out from tight for the high neadle and flush with rest or the bit the screw goes into for the low speed
hope this helps

Agreed, this is the proper way to start a cold engine.
Also turn your hand palm up, only use your forearm to pull on the starter. Heat is the biggest factor, these engines hate to be cold.

Yeah I was already using a hairdryer.

I have sent it back to nitrotek atleast I will then either get my money back or know that it definetly works.

My friend has a 5 year old conquisidor that he never treated well and hadn't used for 2 years. He couldn't get it started and so I tried and got it going in 10 minutes. So I guess I'm not a total nitro retard.

Don't sweat it bro. When you get your engine back, your patience will be restored. When you get it back, put a couple of drops of after run oil in the piston and carb. Pull it with the glow plug out to spread it around. Make sure it's set to the proper factory settings. Get that baby just as hot as you can get it with the hairdryer. Crack the glow plug loose and fire it up. Tighten the plug as soon as it starts. Raise your idle as needed to keep it running using the transmitter. You may have to lean it a bit to get it to stay running. As it warms up and idles higher, turn the trim back down. Most nitro folks would seal the engine before doing anything to it, but that's up to you.

If you keep breaking the pull start or the cord, you're doing it wrong. You DON'T give it a long pull like a lawn mower, but you yank it with short fast jerks that almost keep the engine spinning constantly. You should NEVER come to the end of the cord while trying to start it.

I'm lucky i think cos i can get my abused engine started after about 10-20 pulls and thats in this weather in the summer i can get it after 5-10
