jeeze, I'm gone over night and this thread gets completely ambushed.....i think the perfect example has been made!!!
Well stated Woodie and Joe, some derailing might not be completely intentional but some of it imo seems like it is the goal to completely derail....like build threads, most build threads start off good but by the time theres updates, theres already so many bs posts in it that i dont want to browse through them all to try and find whats new with the project....my opinion.

great point SNG and ncnitro i love build threads but hate looking threw pages

i know i do my part in derailing but i let somebody else start it lol ill slow it down on my part alot.this place is awesome i dont want to see it go down the drain

sorry fellow members

SNG - Man I can't agree more. I love viewing build threads, seeing how the builder is coming along, what he's done, going to do and might do. People ask questions and make comments about it along the way - that's the way a build thread should be.

I'm glad you said that, I think I'm going to have the staff pay close attention to threads like build threads. Those type of threads have the potential to be a huge learning experience not only for the builder but the readers as well. These should remain clean for sure!

I have to say sometimes it's amusing as hell but sometimes it does kinda annoy you if you were following the topic in a thread.

I say we agree on an unwritten rule that you try not to derail a thread unless it's been dead for 24 hours, or something.

Why do you feel a need to derail a thread simply becase no one has posted in it for 24 hours? There are members that are not on several times a day like some others, or even daily, they may stop by only a few times a week, so by the time they get here all the threads are a mess. There are areas of the forum where you can cut up and joke around all you want without making a mess of the rest of the forum.

I think trying to make a 'rule' is almost impossible in this situation (or maybe I haven't thought it out long enough). I think as long as someone makes an attempt to help or have some positive input in a particular thread, then a jab or joke is not a bad thing. The laughs are great, but at the same time hopefully the input is useful and helpful. JMO

MrClean, that is exactly the point I'm trying to make. It seems to be an on/off switch for some or some want to make this personal for whatever reason and really it doesn't need to be either.

No one is saying derails need to stop, no one is pointing blame, nor am I say we need a rule. Simply put it needs to be scaled back, as I've said and even a few others there needs to be balance. More importantly we need to ensure those that are needing information is getting that information first and foremost.

Balance - that's all that's needed. No need for anyone to stop completely or take anything personal. Just balance.

IMO... The only time it's not completely rude is when it happens by accident and/or ibecomes the general direction of the thread. All of this purpose derailing is not very classy, even for a laid back forum like here.

I don't, nor did I intend to imply anyone else did. I didn't even solidly specify it had to be 24 hours. You're oversimplifying what I said, assuming I was intending that to be the only rule, which is far from the case. Screw it, if it was such a stupid suggestion then I'm sorry, I'll keep my 2 cents for the gas meter. :p:

I agree with WoodiE et al that certain areas, like build threads, help threads etc, should be off-limits for derails, and we should avoid trying to derail threads deliberately for the most part, it's a bit asinine when it starts happening *all the time*. I'm not gonna name names but there are some people who damned well deserve it sometimes, but for the most part it needs a lid putting on it. A joke is a joke, and it can go too far.

I wasn't going to add any to this but I do have something to say:

I for one spend as much time helping noobs out as I do joking around. I NEVER post in a build thread unless it is a "that's cool" or a question. I DO try to joke around from time to time but that is in less than 10% of the total threads in any given day and I TRY to keep it in the Chaos section.

My only issue is with those whom try to appear above the fray and yet pile-on. Shame on you for pointing a finger at someone you laugh right along with. That is dishonest in my book.

If anyone has a direct issue with me please bring it to the FFA or PM me. Everyone on here knows me and knows that I am up front and honest. I am a friend to most and maybe an enemy to some but I love you all equally.

Merry Christmas RCNT!!!

RC Addict, no one should have beef with you or anyone else. We all do it, I'm not even above this as I've done it myself.

Seriously everyone go sit in a corner and count to 20. This isn't a personal issue, it's a courtesy to visitors and other members. That's it, everyone stop taking this personal.

Now go, sit in the corner!

Damn! Pimp-slapped and sent to timeout by the big man. I'm going to pout in the corner now. :(

This corner isn't big enough for the three of us! Go find your own you two. Jeez!

Awwww, that's the kind of love I'm talking about!

Especially for you, big guy. Its that shiny dome...

Now as for you, Michael. No one makes me laugh more than you. I'll share my corner with you and you only. Those other guys pick their noses...

BTW--Ya'll got your Tee's yet? I am trying to help ya out, boss!

How do you confuse an Aggie (Texas version of the town idiot)? Tell him to stand in the corner of a round room.

How does the Aggie get back at you? He asks, "Which one?"
