I think the stripes should go on last, if you rub a rock you get a realistic scratch.

That's what I decided. Thanks for the heads up. Here are some more paint pics. They don't do it justice, it looks amazing!!

You can use a servo extension, they come in differnt lengths up to 12 inches and cost around $5. That combo is probably ok but not sure how it would hold up. In comparison I would find a traxxas xl-5, it's a waterproof esc that is proven to be tough! Any cheap non rebuildable motor will be ok for a little while.

I would go with a esc that can handle 3s lipos

I ran homles hobbies esc on 3s with a 35t motor and it's prefect
I also rand the same setup on 2s and I found myself keeping it in the faster speed

Mine is stocked geared also

I ran the xl5 when I first got my kit too on 35t and 45t motors both on 2s and I didn't like it

I would say spend the money to get a good esc that you change settings and stuff and buy a cheap 35t

+1 on 3s capable, mine stock geared in low range is a tiny bit slower than a 27t motor on 2s in a scx10, 3s in low gear with a 35t has tons of wheel speed and torque. Torque is always GOOD!!:D

Alright, based on chatting with john at hh and you guys I'm going with the holmes 30t motor esc combo. For controls I'm gonna pick up the flysky gt3b, and the micro servo that was suggested to me here(forget the name). I'm going to run it on some 3s max amps lipos.

The BR-XL from HH is a bad mofo but do you really need to spend $100 ($115 waterproofed) for an esc that can only run brushed motors? IMO it's only real advantage over something like a Sidewinder SV3 is that the BR-XL can run up to 6s. The SV3 is waterproof and will run brushed or brushless motors up to 3s and cost $70.00.

The Holmes ESC also has what's known as Holmes Hold in addition to drag break. It's like drag brake on steroids, and will not let the rig move on steep rock. If you plan to do a lot of crawling, it's a nice feature to have. The Holmes stuff isn't cheap, but it's very well made, and JRH will waterproof it for you if you wish also. I have a de-cased BR-XL in my comp rig and love it.
